No, he just outboxed him horrendously Pastrano-style. I don't recall fights being won with just four rounds.
Tito was not poor technically. As a puncher, he was textbook. Beautiful combinations thrown perfectly, with his guard still high as he winged his shots. Not a thing to complain about there. I think he had the goods to be a good boxer too, but he planned on his power being the deciding factor in each fight and couldn't adjust. He just kept doggedly trying to get the other guy to adjust to him, even if the situation was hopeless. He was different than a guy like Julian Jackson though, who just walked right to you and teed off. Tito set his artillery up with a fine jab and worked big punches off other big punches in fluid combinations. Jackson just bombed one big shot at a time usually.
Never was much of a Tito fan. He was overrated as HELLL in his prime, but looking back objectively speaking... he was a great figher. Not an ALL TIME great like Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Hagler. But a level below, and easily amongst the top 5 all time punchers at both 147 and 154.
I was just trying the understand what dituillo meant by Oscar outlanding Tito significantly. Because it appeared from what he wrote in replying to natonic that he thought Oscar outlanded Tito even in those final rounds..which I didnt recall. What he meant is what I assumed, that even though Tito finished strong he was still significantly outlanded overall. So mind your own business anarci :tong
Jackson had underrated skills. You make it seem as if Julian was David Tua one dimensional or something. Jackson had good technique, a solid jab when he used it, and quite honestly... he didnt NEED to really land any combos to get the job done. One was usually enough.
I've seen a lot of him, though certainly not every fight. Which ones did he show the good jab? As a puncher (in terms of throwing single shots) yes, he had dynamite technique.
Tito was schooled and the only reason he won any rounds is cause Oscar put his track shoes on at the end, more like Oscar gave them away more than anything Tito did. 117-112 Delahoya
He didnt win ****!!! Only thing he gets credit for is having the more influential promoter that corrupted the judges.
Hey anarci relax, its all subjective...you can't win a fight going backwards, you should know that by now.
Hmmm..........I dunno man. I just went back and watched it again, I didn't see much of a jab there. At the very least it was underutilized. In the few instances where he was jabbing, it seemed like he was doing so while trying to figure out what else to throw next or to take a breather. A good example of what I mean is, for instance, the second round. He puts Drayton down briefly, and then goes nuclear bomb crazy. From that point on in the round, he threw virtually no jabs, everything was a home run shot.
