We were told by a poster that Foreman was the strongest fighter ever and deceptively skilled. The reality is that Foreman was the strongest of 70s, but not the strongest ever. In terms or deceptive skills, I wouldn't say that is true any more than it is for Whyte and Wilder who also picked up boxing late and got by on physical gifts. However, these two have better experience at finishing a full fight and being int he ring with other superheavies. Foreman was fighting small guys and didn't do 12 rounds until he lost to Jimmy Young. In terms of weight, he often came in under 220. Ruiz, Fury, and Miller could all put him on the back foot if they chose to. Chisora, Joshua, and Parker might be able to. Foreman's defense was based on his size and strength relative to fighters of 70s, and even then he got nailed almost at will by guys like Ali and Lyle. He'd have hell to be pay against today's taller, tangier fighters if he didn't completely readjust his defensive technique.
Is this the part in the game where the pendulum swings ridiculously back against Foreman and his accomplishments. Then, in four years, he becomes the GOAT heavyweight, undefeatable in his prime. A bit like American elections.
Yeah, I was under the impression Kamikaze was a pretty knowledgeable member here. Foreman is a top 8 to 10 heavy ATG. Hard to see that being successfully debated. How overrated can you be in TOTALLING a perfect Joe Frazier record? Coming off the floor twice, nearly getting horribly stopped, then kicking the crap out of Ron Lyle? Giving Ken Norton his first truly brutal loss, after arguably beating Ali twice? Winning the title against against an undefeated multi-champ like Moorer at age...what, 46? I'm far more likely to envision this happening. Oh dear.
You know it. There was a time here where Foreman wasn't thought of in such glowing terms. You probably remember that.
Lmao Foreman ain’t Wilder. Fury tries to put him on his back foot his head would be in another zip code. He could out box him maybe but I don’t think he survives a full 12. Wilder with zero fundamentals and weighing less almost sparked him. Miller has faced zero competition little early for that comparison. And Ruiz? Nah. Not happening. Foreman appears to hit much harder then Ruiz does. Idk where you get this idea that foreman would be this tiny thing. Men are a product of their times. Foreman isn’t coming in weighing 215. He would be coming in weighing 240. Unless You truly believe AJ is a natural 240? I’d have a bridge to sell you.
The Wlad thing was sarcasm, I said Foreman was a top 10 HW I said he is overrated H2H and If you look through the posts here you can see my argument do with it what you want, but don't make me out to not know boxing because I consider HWs and in particular George Foreman (H2H) Just not that great.
I should have couched my posts with more respect, and I apologize for that. I'm just not sure you'll get a whole lot of support here for Foreman not being great. His fight against Lyle alone proves that, he had Championship Heart, for sure. Even men like Iron Mike, as indubitably amazing as he was in the 80s, never came back like that. Nowhere near.
George was fighting a crude slugger, the cards all stacked in his favour and was tagged at will and nearly stopped, he showed heart and he showed chin but that is not what defines an ATG.
Lyle was not a crude slugger. Maybe should look into him more...my opinion was similar to yours at one point. But when you look at his accomplishments he was a hell of a fighter
Foreman would brutalize Wlad in a round or two Who was the biggest puncher Wlad even fought? Prime Foreman had a deadly body attack ... Wlad isn't going to survive an iron chinned powerhouse like Foreman ...
