I used to be really into bodybuilding and such so the idea that you could get into the ring jam packed with muscle was really appealing to me, is bruno a representative that this philosophy works within the ring or does he debunk it?
He was very strong in the 1980s, even fighting Lennox Lewis. After Lewis never regained his former form, luckily he got a fake champion in the form of Oliver McCall, who was already a drug wreck. It was a tragic fight but Bruno won the belt as a past prime. Maybe top 20-30
If these proposed ratings are supposed to be “ all time “ then he’s not even top 50. If they are supposed to be in relation to when he was active with respect to other fighters who were around at that time then he was top 10
Who'd he beat Seriously ? He finally landed a belt against fading McCall. Beat a few badly faded names earlier ( Coetzee, Williams, Bugner) Was well marketed but lost each time he stepped up against live top opponents. Never beat a Top fighter who was anywhere near prime. Was fed some of the worst opponents in living memory at times as part of being built back up after each defeat.
I’ve never seen anyone near as good at rabbit punching. He was an artist in that regard. Pretty good with low blows too. Dirty, dirty fighter. And Brit refs always looked the other way to let him.
Agreed British ref are literally the WORST. Bruno was strong and had a good right hand, but top 20? Not even in his dreams. His stamina was terrible he spent way too much time pumping iron and not enough actually you know, boxing.
Good potential, not as good as he could've been. I see that he could've gone from a good fighter to a great one, could've been in the top 3 of the 80s.
He had every chance to become better. He just wasn't and never was. Huge guy , stiff jab , big right hand . Extremely limited natural boxing ability, which never improved. Zero lateral movement . Moved forward or back , jab jab , right hand , rabbit punches in the clinch. That literally was it Helluva decent bloke , but way overrated as a fighter.. I reiterate what I said upthread, he was superbly marketed and given chance after chance , but he beat literally nobody of note who was anywhere near their best.
