Did he go as far as he could go? Or could he of gone further? His best performance/victory? Thoughts on him as a trainer? School me on him...
Yes/ No Ryan Rhodes, admittely at 160 where Rhodes wasn't the same fighter as at 154 IMHO. Seems to be starting well. He was always a serious guy and a "thinker" as a fighter so that will probably stand him in good stead.
was a good fighter, but a big let down in his fight against pavlik, seemed to lak guts in that, and that is what a lot of people remember him for
European level fighter, good power, tough aswell, suffered horrendous facial damage in a fight with yuri tsrenko or whatever his name was and kept going, intelligent and well spoken outside the ring.
He looked actually pretty good boxer for me.. I just dont think he was big enough for middleweight. Lockett can be proud of his career. After all he fought against THE MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD. not every Joe from the street can get that far!:good
shite. he took the money and ran against Pavlik. Kept talking about his property portfolio. It's satisfying to know the market will continue to tank so Lockett will have done his bollocks big time.
Lacked guts ! r u joking ? ... he got in with a fighter who was a few leagues above at the time and for me that takes guts ..... the pre Hopkins pavlik was a very destructive fighter and for Lockett to take up the challenge commands a little respect... Lockett was a good domestic fighter but not world level . As a trainer he could be exceptionally good if he gets good fighters .
Serious lad who could wallop...:yep I thought he had to develop the defensive part of his game too late on...:yep Did well v Rhodes at 160 but at 154 Rhodes would have took him...:deal I hope that he makes a good go of it as a trainer and wish him luck...:good
I would say that he was top domestic / European and then fringe world level. Picked up the WBU bauble (for what that's worth) and had a gallant (pragmatic) but doomed challenge against Pavlik for a proper belt. He was never going to win but you can't begrudge him the payday, a boxer's earning potential is short. Had a column on the bbc website a few years back and seemed fairly articulate. Hope he makes it as a trainer, has some talent in that regard by all accounts, usually the verybest boxers do not make the best trainers, so he may have a shot.
I'm not sure I'd call the Pavlik performance "gallant" Rich. "Pragmatic" might be a better word to describe Locketts approach to that fight.
