Lockett was pathetic vs Pavlik. The thing I remember about that is that there was a muppet on the boxrec forum who was a mate of Locketts who was making posts about how Lockett had a real chance etc. Lockett had no chance and he knew it himself.
He was decent,he just never had a view of world class until he walked into Pavlick. It happens to too many Brit fighters. They dont get a proper taste of world class until its too late.
Lockett just looked happy to be there for the pay day against Kelly. He didn't have the movement, skills or handspeed to take advantage of the Ohioan's flaws. He got clocked by the jab early on, knew he had no way to avoid it, and must have felt his knees buckle. No way he was walking through that when the right hand that would follow would be even harder. He knew his level and had no right in a ring against a top-level fighter like Pavlik.
Am watching.hoping for a Honeyghan type win.It would be3 great if Darren could pull it out.It is too much a bit too late(soon)but who knows!
why would i joke about lacking guts, about a boxer,i never call boxers, they have **** loads of guts, but be ****ing honest mate,he dident even give it a go,just went, got twated without giving it a go,then ****ed off home,he was embarressingatsch and i hope he goes on to be a top trainer, seems a nice chap
whatever he's lossed on property he will make back on rent. renting well more expensive than buying now
He said that his main interest was his property portfolio and that he didn't even like boxing. He claimed he had no interest in the glory whatsoever. Then, a few days later he took voluntary knees against Pavlik and decided to stay down for the count. He didn't exactly go out on his shield...
I don't think any can hold Lockett's performance with Pavlik against him. He ended his career in a payday. Fair play to him. He got out with money and his health intact. Probably knew that was his last fight, no point taking a hammering off a big big puncher in his last fight. If anyone is to blame for such a shitty fight it's the promoters who treat us fans like mugs. Whether Lockett gave it his all or not the result would have been the same.
As a few others have mentioned, he'll always be remembered for that pathetic display against Pavlik. He grabbed the money and ran, almost literally.
A boxer should always give his all when he steps in the ring. I don't know if he has any fans, but some probably spent a bit of cash flying over to watch him, not to mention other people that went to see a decent fight. The bloke didn't even try.
