"Tyson is one of the hardest hitters for his size" Mike Tyson in his prime was almost exactly the same weight as George Foreman was in his prime...Both about 217lbs in 1988 and 1973 respectively. "Ali and Jimmy Young are among the most skilled HWs ever". Mike Tyson is also one of the most skilled heavyweights ever, so that's a mute point. "Them outboxing him when he was going through a rough patch does not mean its a weakness". Of course boxing is Foreman's weakness lol. If boxing isn't his weakness then it means he's the first fighter in history to have no stylistic weaknesses, cuz he's sure as hell not weak to sluggers or swarmers, and he sure as hell struggled with boxers (who are by definition more skilled anyway). You can use an off night to excuse any weakness you want, doesn't make it any less true. "Foreman was going the distance every fight with elite fighters in his late 40s hes as durable as they come." You're combining the best aspects of 70's Foreman and 90's Foreman together to make some Composite Foreman ubermensch. Young Foreman as a result of cutting weight and having vastly inferior pacing had worse endurance and durability than his older self. "He is not vulnerable to Mike Tysons power. At all. Just like he wasn't vulnerable to Frazier at all". What on earth are you talking about...Joe Frazier DOESN'T COME CLOSE to hitting as hard as Mike Tyson. Mike was an ATG power puncher with good but not great stamina, Frazier was an ATG attrition puncher with good but not great power. "A fight with Tyson would go the same way. Tyson might last a little longer because its hard to call someone getting KO'd in R1 or R2 but thats about it". You think that a prime Mike Tyson would last a little longer than a post prime Joe Frazier? Are you serious? I still favour Foreman because shoving and grappling was tailored made for Tyson who is hopeless at dealing with physicality, but saying that a prime Mike Tyson would do worse against Foreman than a post-prime Joe Frazier makes is ridiculous. This is low-key one of the strangest takes I've ever seen.
The truth hurts....some very well known boxing historians say that Foreman is one of THE most over rated champs of all time. That his prime was exactly 3 fights...s "Shopworn" Frazier in 1973...the Immortal Joe "King' Roman...and "Chinny" Ken Norton! Lost to a past his prime Ali....AND...here it comes..."Jimmy Young" in 1977....and the "legendary "Ossie Ocasio...it works both ways...
Fury's chin is too weak and his defensive focus not consistent enough for him to beat most punchers in heavyweight history tbh. He got knocked down by a single punch from 210lbs Steve Cunningham ffs.
1)Ali 2) Louis 3) Lewis 4) Big George ????? I said it in another thread. Big George is at least a pickem to virtually any fighter who ever lived.
I'm tired of Joe Louis detractors saying he had chin problems. How many times did Max Schmeling land haymakers on that "weak" chin of his before finally putting him to sleep? Answer: Many. I haven't counted but at least 15. The knockdowns suffered against Braddock and Galento weren't serious. He never looked woozy after Buddy Baer unloaded on him. Walcott was a great fighter and terrific puncher meeting a declining Louis. During his many great years (1935 to 1946) Joe had a good chin. Marciano knocked out a ghost.
It was way more times than 15 - dozens more. People often neglect to take Louis' aggressive, high-risk, in-the-pocket style into consideration when referring to the KDs he suffered. I've never viewed the knockdowns as a big deal, myself.
If Frazier was "shopworn" when Foreman beat him, then Walcott, Louis, Charles, and Moore were dirt covered fossils when Rocky faced them.
And today he was knocked down by 223 Usyk, a guy who moved up from cruiserweight and whose not known for his punching power. Fury was literally saved by the bell. I don't ever want to hear about Fury vs Foreman again.
Basically, I don't think a powerpunch is enough to reach the elite and win a world title. Shavers is a good example on that. I think Foreman was very effective with timing his shots and sort of reading his opponent. Also, in life out of boxing, he seems to be intelligent and demonstrating a strong sense for sales and business.
Foreman being H2H top 5 is laughable. Foreman doesn't beat Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe, Usyk, Vitali and many others.
1. Ali 2. Louis 3. Holmes 4. Holyfield 5. Lewis 6. Foreman 7. Frazier 8. Tyson 9. Wlad 10. Dempsey or Liston I used to put George in the top 5 until I really got into watching Lewis' fights under Steward and saw how sensational he truly was. George was quite impressive during his title reign. So he got beat by the greatest heavy of all time, and lost a bit after to one of the finest technicians in heavy history. Ok. Then he came back and won the title at a freaky old age...a feat that noone else has accomplished before or since. At the time, Moorer was undefeated (a world title holder in two weights), a more than respectable opponent. And yeah, he ended up winning some sketchy decisions after that (and got robbed against the top contender). So what? Doesn't change what he did in his (gasp) mid 40s.
I agree with Glass, Bowe got hit an AWFUL lot. That said, 1992 Bowe had a lot more boxing talent than Morrison overall.
