How good was Gerald "G-Man" McCllelan?

it is surprising, as gerald was not particulary fast or skillfull, and i would have thought jones would have seen the punches coming and countered with ease.

loved to have seen it though.

I personally find him to be fairly overrated, as he never really did a lot in his career. As people have already said, its a case of what might have been.
Also on the Roy Jones fight, nobody knows how early it was, or how long either man had been fighting. Too much emphasis is placed on this fight IMO.

 

He was good , just not as good as Nigel Benn. That guy had real heart.

I have seen some awful refereeing before but I am sorry Bodysnatcher it has to be one of the worst i have seen EVER!

 

What the **** is this bull****? He goes into the fight with a pre-existing condition(according to those close to him) post-Jackson II which causes him to break down late in the fight(when combined with constant rabbit punches and a completely incompetent referee) and you're writing him off as "not as good" when he KD'd Benn twice and almost had him out in the first round. It sure as hell wasn't those little pitty pat punches at the end that did G-Man in.

And Benn had "real heart"? Are you implying that McClellan didn't?

 

The G-Man could knock down the walls of a city.

 

i rated him very highly he was an incredible puncher, and he was great to watch he would have been a big star

 

He obviously wasn't as good as Nigel Benn:happy and for all of whiners that are blaming the ref:-( get over it! bunch of whiners! the ref didn't KO Mccllean Benn did:deal Mccllean was a sadistic *******-nuff said..

1.Your right Nigel Benn did win great win in a pretty solid career.
2. I just watched round 1 of that fight and almost puked when I seen how much that ref was keeping them seperated when Benn was very hurt. Not once Not twice but three times, If you watch round 1 you can see G-man look at the ref several times like wtf are you doing. (i'm not saying G-man would have finished the fight but that was **** poor)
3. about the sadistic part your a complete troll.

 

Also Congrats to my #1 favorite RJJ for doing his part where nobody else really would.

 

Regardless of G-Man as a fighter, I don't see how anyone can say anything different of him as a man. I try to look past all that and judge the fights objectively, but there's no doubt McClellan was(for lack of better words) a sadistic ******* outside of the ring.
