How good was Hasim Rahman ??

I think he was better than average. Beat Lewis, Sanders and was probably robbed against Tua. Gave some galant losing efforts to good men as well. Not a great fighter by any means but one with a respectable career. Probably comparable to some of the alphabet champions of the 1980s.

 

my opinion Rahman was nothing more than a journeyman. in fact i could list a dozen journeyman from the 70s who beat him easily

 

Having acknowledged his limitations, he actually impresses me as a versatile fighter.

He beat significant contenders with a wide range of different styles, including boxer punchers, sluggers, and cuties.

 

I'd argue that, while he wasn't a special fighter, Hasim gets sold a little short these days. He was a solid world-class guy and you can't knock his level of competition. He fought most of the top guys from the tail end of Lennox's reign up to Wlad and Povetkin and, ultra shot versions aside, generally acquitted himself well.

I find it interesting that a guy like Mercer seems to be held in higher regard than Rahman now considering Hasim has the better wins and achieved more.

He was good HW, strong, hard-hitting, good jab, he also had underestimated defensive skills which helped him against hard hitters like Sanders and Tua.

Rahman's main flaws were his speed and also his predictability,

I like him and he was involved in some exciting fights - Lennox, Holyfield, Maskaev, Sanders etc.

Unfortunately, Rahman faded very quickly and in his last 2 fights he looked like 70 y.o. former boxer.

 

Not bad not great. He had some assets but also had some drawbacks.

 

Would say that he was a big puncher, something that people don't talk much about Rahman, you heard about Frank Bruno being a big puncher and not about Rahman for example.

i would have to disagree with you "That he was a Big Puncher".. i don't think he was that big of a puncher. Rahman's record shows that whenever he fought anyone rated above Class C other than Lennox Lewis and Corrie Sanders, he could never knocked out them fighters. He KOd unknown tomato can fighters, but never fighters rated in the Top 50

 

His best performance must've been against Kali Meehan. He looked like an absolute monster in that fight

 

Rahman had 62 fights and only one remarkable (lucky) ko win (Lewis).
Sanders was a bum.
It's not too impressive "list".

 

He was fair i guess :huh, watching him KO Sanders was awesome, since Rahman was American, i thought he was robbed against Tua which ****ed me off, and Johnny Ruiz smacked him around too, he was in a few exciting fights, his 2 fights against Maskaev were both exciting matches...

Not a lot of talk about his lottery punch KO, against Lewis since he was annihilated in the rematch, :yep

The Ruiz fight is the most troubling thing on his resume IMO. He should have beaten Ruiz easily if he was even half as good as his fans thought he was but he looked absolutely clueless and could not figure out how to handle Ruiz' clutching style. Where his supposed super strength in that fight?
