How do you rate the Ricky Hatton that fought PBF? Did he have a bad trainer in Billy Graham? Could any plan have won the fight for Ricky?
Joe Cortez stopped it every 5 secs, couldn't really tell. His work rate was excellent though. However, seemed like he couldn't figure Floyd out at all. Was eating rights all over later in the match.
Hatton showed some good footwork in the early rounds and as MVC said, a good workrate. But Floyd definetly fought at his own pace and controlled the fight.
I thought he did very very well considering Cortez kept stopping Hatton from doing what he been tactically training to do for months before the fight and he was fighting a true elite level boxer at a weight class he never was at his best in.
Hatton looked pretty good through 6 rounds. From 7-10, Mayweather took absolute control and Hatton never won a single minute span during that time. Mayweather simply won rounds in the first half of the fight, then began to grind him down. Essentially, Mayweather vs. Hatton was fought from start to finish in Hatton's comfort zone and he got outclassed at it. Hatton managed to produce an exciting fight with Mayweather, one which should go down to everyone as one of Mayweathers' best fights to watch, even if some people like to dissect the legacy-enhancing aspect differently. That's another question. I believe that the Hatton that showed up in the ring against Mayweather was the last time we ever saw a prime Ricky Hatton.
I thought it was a real case of him not being able to stand up straight. Seemed like no acting or anything to me...
Hatton did well, however this myth that Hatton would have done better if cortez let him fight on the inside is laughable at best. Anyone who watched the fight could see that floyd was beating hatton at his own game with great inside work, picking his shots at will.
Cortez completely ****ed up the fight, it would have been five times more exciting and had far more action if you had someone like Smoger in there. For that reason it's hard to tell, he looked really up for the fight, looked fast and was moving well, but like I said, after every break Hatton had to reset and try get Floyd near the ropes time after time from centre ring.
People don't give Hatton any credit for his performance in the fight because of the way it ended, but he fought his heart out and didn't stop coming. Cortez didn't help him any, Mayweather probably had a word in Cortez's ear before the fight. Still think Hatton loses any time they fight.
I think Hatton would have won if it wasn't for Cortez. Look at the great ref in the Zoo fight. That's how you referee
He was very good, but his performance gets overrated alot, many say he would win if Cortez didnt brake him up with Floyd, with which i dont agree at all!
He fought his heart out, and was completely outclassed by one of the best ever. No shame in that, I thought he did himself proud, and put on a great show for his fans. Floyd wins 10/10 times with whoever as referee.
