Hatton had Mayweather looking uncomfortable at points due to his footspeed, and he made Mayweather go up a gear. Normally Mayweather does just enough to win, and cruises by with careful, measured work at his own pace. In this fight, Hatton turned it into a high speed bout, as he kept charging right at Mayweather and trying to wrestle him around. Mayweather had to fight him off to gain respect. One thing that surprised me -- Hatton's trademark shot was the left-hook to the body, and I can't remember him landing a single decent one in the whole fight. It does make sense, due to Floyd's defensive skills, but considering how many times they were wrestling around in the clinch, it's crazy that he still managed to keep Hatton from throwing or landing that shot properly. Cortez didn't help, of course -- he definitely did a bad job handling that fight.
Lets be honest ricky was never in that fight...it was exciting...but all he had was workrate...clean effective shots....no. Hitting arms and shoulders, half deflected and blocked punches please....I was not impressed. He tried to be patient at points thats what I liked, but then he lost his cool and went charging in....just like against Pacquiao... If he had remained composed and calm instead of trying to bum rush and bully Pacquiao...used the jab he could have beat him to a close decision IMO.
I find it funny, how Hatton fights at 140 his career, moves up one weight class, and people want to try and throw it in as an excuse because they don't want to admit that Mayweather was just a superior fighter. Didn't Mayweather start at 130??? Wasn't 147 his 4th weight class?? Didn't Hatton weigh more that Mayweather on fight night. Lets stop with the excuses about refs and weight class and just admit that Hatton lost for one reason only, Mayweather is a superior fighter in every way.
Ricky tried hard, and smoothered Mayweather's offense, but that's about it. People talk about his work rate, but he threw less than 40 punches a round. He barely landed any clean punches and got out fought on the inside. Ricky actually got out Ricky'd in this fight, he couldn't land his signature punch(or many punches at all for that matter), he couldn't even get off many punches, he lost just about every round, and was knocked out after getting knocked head first into a turnbuckle. When you think about it, Hattton didn't do much in this fight except smother Mayweather.
Cortez made no difference, Floyd was timing Hatton lunging in with that check from round 3 onwards, it was just a matter of time before Hatton got corked with a good one that put him out. If Cortez allowed Hatton to wrestle which would lead to him lunging in more often the end might have even come sooner
Some of Floyd's hardest rounds to handle were with Hatton.. He never saw that kind of pressure before, and also Hatton had some power, had backed him up and almost had a knock down if Floyd's legs didn't hold up.. So overall even though he lost he gave a good performance.
True...I don't understand why people try to make it seems like Mayweather was trying to gain an edge on Hatton, Mayweather started his career at 130 if these morons doesn't know. It's Hatton who's picking on Floyd here. Just like how Floyd is trying to pick on Pacquiao who started his career at 105 pounds...7 weight classes below where Floyd started. What's funny is why would Floyd need OSDT to fight this midget. If Floyd and PAC doesn't fight maybe one day Floyd can still be as great as PAC by moving up to heavyweight and knocking somebody out there.
Stupid *******s...:-( So if Floyd fights Pacquio, you guys say he's picking on a smaller fighter. If he doesn't fight him, you guys say he's ducking. Which one is it??
Hatton was fighting himself, the ref and Floyd in that fight. He could have done a lot better if he didnt smother his own work on the inside, and wasnt rushing in so carelessly. The ref didnt help at all either, Cortez is a pretty terrible referee.
Mayweather was on cruise control from round 7 on. Easy nights work. Lampley "Floyd looking to us smiling, as if to say how easy this is" Hard work for Floyd? GTFO. Go watch the fight. Hatton landed 69 punches in 9 1/2 rounds.
