...........and the legend of Ibeatahoochie goes on & grows................:-( Ike had less than a 25% chance against Lewis or the Klitschkos.
after i read the "he destroyed tua..." i knew you are a newbie. tua should have won that fight. if that fight was 15 rounds tua might have got ike out of there!
Naw......Ike came from a FAR deeper talent pool of HW's than the Klits....and LL at the time was a soild HW...very technical and I'd give Ike the edge to beat him in the early 90's. Actually I would have bet my house on Ike to beat LL in the early 90's. LL is better than BOTH Klits Prime for Prime! But LL got better over time....when Ike was around LL was seen as a BIG, BIG HW. And it wasn't is skills or savvy that made him dangerous...it was his size and power. Ike had size and power along with very good boxing skills that LL found under Emanuel Stewart later on in his career. Yes....Ike's "legend" is a lot of BS...but there are also many truths. He could have been a great HW champion. He had all the tools, skills and talent. Prime for Prime LL vs Ike IMO is a toss up b/c no one could ever know how good Ike could have been....what we saw early on was very, very promising and that's why many experts, fans ects were so hyped on him.
He landed three punches to one in the Tua fight. Tua shots were harder, though. But Ike to all the shots, it just ****ed him up later.
I had Ibeabuchi winning the rounds in the first half of the fight, but the last 5 or 6 i had Tua winning. He seemed to be landing the more accurate body punches, Ike started gassing out in the later stages. Too bad there weren't 15 rounds, i think Tua would have stopped him...
Both Wlad and Vitali beats the **** out of Ike. Even cruiserweights beat the **** out of him in sparring so that he had to jump them in the locker room to break their finger.
It's a true story, he broke a cw's finger back in the day because he got schooled in sparring. He was a ****ing nut on coke
Honestly with Ike Ibeabuchi in the mix today, the Klitschkos wouldnt be on top, Wlad sure wouldnt, Perhaps Vitali because Vitali has shown a better chin, but does Vitali have what it takes to go through what Ike is willing to put you through? Either way had Ike been in the game today he would be the man and honestly the divison would be a bit more exciting. Could you imagine the fights, Ibeabuchi vs the Klitschkos, Ibeabuchi vs Peter Ibeabuchi vs Valuev Ibeabuchi vs James Toney in 03 and Toney wouldnt be a heavyweight today had that fight took place well he would be but not as a boxer.
He was somewhat overrated but he never succeded to finalise his potential do to resons we all know.Him and Tyson could have been special.
Toney has been outboxed by Sam Peter, what does that say about him? Peter was dancing like Ali in the 12th boxing Toney's ears off.
You are wrong about the Byrd fight, Ike did say he was hard to hit after the fight but he had to find a state of rage that would allow him to put Byrd on the ropes and get him out of there, in none of that interview did Ike say Byrd hurt him to the body or had him frustrated. and about David Tua outboxing Ike, look that fight was no boxing match that was a fight both men stood in there shoulder to shoulder from the opening bell to the closing bell.
I didn't mean that Ike was ALL hype, just way over rated, especially here on ESB. Ike had a good jab, good overall skillset & power in both hands to go with a solid chin. I don't think he was especially fast or anything though, and Tua should've gotten the draw. Fights like that one deserve to have another "go" to truly weed out the better of the 2 fighters.
Ike had a lot of potential. His work-rate was insane, and he was putting something on most of those shots. I think he displayed good skills and versatility too. He had good handspeed when he let his combinations go, but also ability on the inside. He showed his strength and toughness with Tua, even though he should have kept the fight long inside of bashing away on the inside with Tua. He could have made that fight easier for himself and in the end it turned out real close. It showed he would have brought a lot of excitement.
