EXTREMELY overrated by many boxing fans. Had 18 fights against the usual tomato cans and journeymen and then fought TWO fights against rated contenders, one of which he arguably lost (Tua) against a fighter who didn't turn out to be that great himself, and the other where he KOd a guy who was, essentially, a supermiddleweight. There are not many more boxers in the last 30 years who are more ridiculously overrated based on what they actually did than Ibeabuchi.
I'm certain that Ibeabuchi would receive a hiding from all 3 to be honest. He was not the monster many now make him out to be, he was taken deep into fights by proper no-hopers.
He was the last promising young up and coming fighter that would have challenged Lewis. All the other guys never really lived up to the hype of taking the torch from Lewis, Bowe, Holyfield and Tyson and I think this guy could have developed onto that kind of skill level if stayed in the sport.
Cmon. I dont think he was overated. He was in two very difficult fights against two guys at their respective bests and showed the speed and composure to beat Byrd, and the chin and strength to fight Tua's fight. Its more based on potential and in 20 fights the guy showed some great potential to be a real force in the division. Noones shown anything close to that since.
I'll just say this. Not many people around that time if anyone could have gotten in a war with Tua and not have been ko'd. He needs mental help not prison the man clearly lost his mind after he won that fight.
You've gotta be kidding me. Both Klitschkos have done FAR more in this division than Ibeabuchi ever did. Hell guys like Brewster, Sanders, and Tua himself accomplished more. Ibeabuchi just doesn;'t have the body of work to get the rep he does among some boxing fans. Sure, he showed POTENTIAL, but the FACTS are that he has two victories over rated opponents, and that's it.
ALWAYs the most accurate poster. One of the VERY few offsets to the abundance of non-athletes and couch potato ESBers that post constant NEVER ENDING idiocy about boxing. ---------------------------------------------------------- Other conceivable and/or accurate posts: quote=Predicto;6455041]Ike was a bit of beast... Pretty decent boxer Great work-rate Great stamina Great chin Good Power Aggresive style Fearless attitude Ripped at 240lbs He was still more or less untested... but sure looked like the next big thing that night he put Byrd on ***** St. with the big uppercut/hook! Bam![/quote] :good:good
Even the Tua has not ever wona title he beat a youg bird and went to ware with a limited slugger he is overrated bad by some people. Who knows he might of won a title.. But just as likely he would of lost focus and never made it too. He was a head case.
I renember his Fight with Tua for me one of the Best Heavyeright Fights !!! Ibeabuchi was very Good no Doubt he was a great Heavyweight Hope
