I wasn't nearly as big a fan of boxing during Ike's hayday as I've become over the last several years, and I was wondering what some of you that watched his fights regularly thought of his ability/promise in the heavyweight division. I watched most of his fight against Tua and I've never seen Tua beaten in an inside brawling match like that (where Tua would presumably have the advantage due to his short arms and powerful inside game).

He didn't look half bad in his fight against Chris Byrd, either - he had the size and power necessary to presumably compete against some of the taller heavyweights at the time (Vitali, Wlad, Lewis), but it's hard for me to tell where his skill level was due to his somewhat brief/incomplete resume.

    Thoughts?

2 good wins, not much else other than some bum killing. He is nowhere near what he is hyped up to be. Essentially he is what Andrew Golota would have been had he retired after the Bowe fights.

    A very, very good prospect.

He would have killed Wlad had they fought when Ibeabuchi was around, probably would have battered every other heavyweight around aswell apart from Lewis and Vitali.

He outslugged a highly favoured, unbeated, prime David Tua who was in great shape. He also beat the highly favoured Chris Byrd, who like Tua, was undefeated, and in his prime. Beating 2 top 10 prime, unbeaten heavyweights in such a short career is some achievement.

He was an absolute beast. A huge fighter, with amazing power and very good speed. His work rate was tremendous and was matched by his superb stamina. His chin was nothing short of outstanding. To think what would happen if David Haye or Wlad stepped in a ring with him is scary. A fast, powerful, relentless monster who can't be stopped = A nightmare for anyone except for maybe Vitali Klitschko. Then again, Vitali never fougth anyone as good as a prime Ike.

We can't be sure, but I am pretty confident in saying he was a terrific fighter who would slaughter any heavyweight contender of today, and would have a more than reasonable chance against the champions. It's a shame he went banana's.

Dont agree with Atlanta , watch him against a very strong Tua. Great work rate , head movement and technique. Is the kind of fighter who could have given Lennox some real problems.

What this guy said....the man was a beast....I personally think he could have become HW champion....and stayed around for a while....he could box and punch and brawl....he was an all rounder....oh well....another one that could have/should have/would have.

Why do you keep mentioning David Haye and Wlad in same Sentence? BEcause their Weak Chins?

Wlad has EASILY the tools to clown that guy, no doubt about it.

And what comes to Tua Fight i had Tua Winning that bout and that thell something about Ike's skills.:good

He was very good in my opinion but we are judging a very short career. He has two very good wins over Tua and particularly Byrd but outside of that it is very hard to judge how far he could have gone.

he could have make some nosie but he would have SHORT career.

Ike got Brain Damage from David Tua, With style like that you are not lasting long. that is just fact.

    He was Extremely Entertaining Brawler.

    Alright cockbreath..........

I mention David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko in the same sentence because they are both current heavyweight title holders, and I was assessing how Ibeabuchi would fare against the title holders of today. There chins have nothing to do with it.

I said that if they fought at the time, Ibeabuchi would beat Wlad. You think the Wlad, who lost to Ross Puritty a year earlier than Ibeabuchi beat Tua and Byrd, would beat Ike? Because I certainly don't, and neither would any sane person. Wlad has never faced anyone as good as Ibeabuchi. Never.

I had Ike winning. 115-113. Tua was in his prime, unbeaten, and at his best weight ever. He was a fast, powerful heavyweight with good punching technique and good head movement. Ibeabuchi outslugged and beat him. A prime tua is better than any fighter that Haye or Wlad (both current champions) have ever faced. Why are you discrediting Ike by discrediting Tua?

Stick to hunting turkeys or whatever it is that you do :yep:good

Ibeabuchi was WAAAY better than Sam Peter.

Had very good technique, speed, stamina, brutal power and a World Class Chin, but his defense was not that great. His fight with Tua set a record for most punches thrown in a heavyweight fight.

Tua punched him almost at will for 10 rnds that night, and couldnt even wobble him, but right after that fight, Ike started suffering from headaches.

That fight probably took something out of him, some people say it was his sanity.
