Obviously good enough to become Heavyweight champion, but put him into an other era.? Where the champs a little more robust, their chins not as shaky. Is Ingo a guy that just got lucky, came along at the right time or was he always a danger to the top contenders?
I think he is a little overated here and his power is too imo.The three champs before Paterson would have beat him imo and nearly all those that followed imo.Right time, right place.
Yep, I'll go with that, Floyd was perfect at that time for Ingo really. Not many that came after Patterson lose to Ingo either. Imo
In addition to that, I think a lot of contenders in that time would've beaten him including Machen had he taken him seriously and respected his power. If Machen fought him like he did Williams, and Liston, he would've defeated him decisively and Ingo knew it which is why he never got back in the ring with Machen despite repeated attempts to get a rematch by Machen (which included going as far as taking this matter to court).
Well he was good enough to give Patterson who is highly regarded on here fits and all the trouble he could handle over 3 fights including a brutal stoppage. Whoever did what he did to Eddie Machen? He cleaned out an admittedly pretty moderate European crop but he did it all without too much trouble. Boxing skillwise he was pretty basic but that right hand was a genuine weapon and he certainly knew how to use it. Overall he was pretty good.
