Again, I challenge ANYBODY to list me the 7 rounds you scored for Hopkins in either/both fights. I’ll save you the hassle, you can’t...
He was good enough to win a debatable decision against a 40 year old Hopkins. Thats all he was good enough to do.
Are you really that confident that Taylor won both fights unquestionably? So you scored rounds for Taylor for simply throwing and hitting thin air? Sure Hopkins threw next to nothing but sometimes the few clean punches that were landed belonged to Hopkins. Scoring 7 rounds for Hopkins in either fight is far from impossible. In both fights, Hopkins arguably won 5 of the last 6 and definitely won round 5 in both fights. Hell, even some of the early rounds had Hopkins doing the cleaner work despite having a very low workrate. Yes, I can understand scoring both fights for Taylor based on each round in isolation. The thing is that as a whole, Taylor took much more punishment than he dished out in both fights.
The thing is, that’s not how fights are scored, so again if you can list me the 7 rounds you scored for Hopkins we can discuss.
That wasn't really the point in that fight. Issue is that he got outboxed by AA... a guy who often needed to bail himself out with that nuclear punching power, but in this case it was just the cherry on top to remove all doubt who was superior.
I gave Hopkins rounds 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 in the first fight. Hopkins was simply landing the cleaner shots. I still have to rewatch the rematch.
Yeah I simply disagree, if you try and find rounds for Hopkins I guess you could make the case for 7 and 8, but I think Hopkins gave away the fight with inactivity, plain and simple. It was a slow dull fight but I just can’t give Hopkins much credit for how he fought the fight outside of the last few rounds where he really put his foot on the gas and performed to his potential. Prior to that he was meh at best. You can’t give away 8 rounds then press the action the last three and win, the math just doesn’t work.
Gotcha, it was really more of a case of Hopkins losing a close decision because he left way too many rounds in doubt than Taylor being the better man. I still can not call the fight a robbery nor the second fight which I thought Hopkins won narrowly as well.
Please. He took some serious beatings before Pavlik broke him down. And the other 2 KO's were in the 12th rounds.
I did do so in one of the fights. Not bothered to check em again as I tried to do so a few months back and got bored. I think I had the first fight for Hopkins and second as a draw some years ago.
I think I had Taylor 7-5 in Hopkins I and a 6-6 in Hopkins II. They were bad fights and I'm not going to watch them again, tho.
