There's never been a better 200lb man than Joe Louis. It's possible he might drop some stylistically at that type of weight, but in the 176-210 range i'd make him number one.
Champ from 1937 to 1949...25 title defenses...the PERFECT puncher...fast hands...deadly combinations...
Except for not moving well, and being small, and chinny, and very leaky in his defense and mostly just throwing a bunch of punches, he'd never beat someone like Jimmy Young, who would utilize the power of effective inaggression.
Only one I'd put above him is Ali, and he would win his share in an extended series with Ali and they would not all go the distance. Maybe the most perfect heavyweight offensive machine ever born of a woman.
Potentially the best ever. I don't think that there has ever been a better finisher, and while he was not the biggest heavyweight, he probably sits at the lower end of what is big enough even today.
If you're rating him just amongst Heavyweight then he's one of the best ever, if you're rating him amongst Super Heavyweights aswell then he drops a bit lower overall but would still be one of the greats.
He was very, very good. Best combination puncher ever. The speed and fluidity he was able to chain punch after punch is amazing. The problem I have with Joe Louis is his sub par chin and defensive flaws. For example, I can't imagine him pulling what Ali did in Kinhasha.
