One of those rare fighters whom I don't know a lot about. Is there any good footage of him in his prime? Could we make a case for an all time top 10 spot? top 15? As it is, my current list is: 1. Ezzard Charles 2. Sam Langford 3. Archie Moore 4. Michael Spnks 5. Gene Tunney 6. Billy Conn 7. Bob Foster 8. Roy Jones Jr. 9. Tommy Loughran 10. Harold Johnson
Undoubtedly one of the great light heavyweights of history. You could make a case for him in the top ten or fifteen, but you could also make a case against it, given the enormous dept of the division.
Well Futch considers him the second best light heavy he ever saw and Archie Moore considers him the best. Not a bad starting point.
One of the best ever. Went undefeated at the weight (in like 80 fights iirc), beat a Murderer's Row of great opponents and was proclaimed the best LHW ever by Ray Arcel. His style was basically made out to be a traditional out-boxer, good fundamentals but with unholy body shots, as fast as greased lightning whilst being insanely accurate. His lead hand was supposed to be wonderful too. In his career he was stopped once in like 115 fights; excellent chin. He also was capable of dropped and hurting Maxie Rosenbloom. Twice... I have him at #6. And as an animal H2H. No. Massive kick in the bollocks for a fanboy like me.
One of the best Lt Heavies ever. Maybe lacks against the very best 175lbers resume wise but the kicker is his excellent record against the heavies he faced. Aside from Louis demolishing him his record against the big boys was great. Foster for one falls way short in this area. A huge talent.
Great reply. Thanks Its disappointing there is no footage of the dude. I would love to see him in his prime.
