Everyone brushes off Joe Louis’s win over John Henry because of his bad vision in one eye that forced his retirement. But the Joe Louis fight was actually Henry’s 10th fight in under 12 months and he won them all going into the bout against Joe. I think the blow out loss may have had more to do with how good the brown bomber was, than eye issues. John Henry said he been fighting with the issue in his eye since 1935. A full 4 years. But after the bout against Joe nobody would grant him a license.
