How good was Margarito's win over Martinez?

Has anyone seen this young a Martinez? For example people always say Salvador Sanchez beat a young, green Azumah Nelson. Having Nelson's career set on dvd I can easily say that was one of the best performances by him in his professional career. He was really up for it (although Sanchez seemed to be in a decline by me, although it was a hell of a vicous assault, he can't have expected it). That for me was a amazing win for Sanchez but looking on paper you could minimalise it especially as Nelson had only fought stiffs before. How do you feel about the quality of Margo's win. I know there will be references about cheating but try and refrain. I'm interested in what people think.

    Thanks

Really good! Considering where Martinez is now on peoples P4P list and 160lb division king.

    Decent at best.

Margaritos career comes into question since he joined up with Capetillo.

Martinez would easily beat Margarito now.

I agree with Eze. Avg because Martinez was only an avg fighter back then. Yes, Nelson was green with only 14 or so pro fights, but was still a great fighter nevertheless as he and Sanchez were the same age. I still give Sanchez credit for the reason Nelson beat Gomez right after his fight with Sanchez. It's like if Gamboa gets beat by Pacquiao and then beats Juanma Lopez afterwards. Nelson is one of those rare cases where he was a great fighter even when he was 15-0. One of the many reasons "The Professor" is Africa's greatest fighter.

Pretty solid under the radar win over a future elite fighter. I'd position it's significance between Hopkins over Johnson and Singsurat over Pacquiao, a legit win over a green fighter that looks very nice on the resume with a note.

Until he fought Williams no one really knew of him.

At the time they fought Martinez was the favorite and was ranked higher. It was a good win over a solid fast southpaw prospect, Margarito overwhelmed him with a high volume of solid punches. Today it would be a different story as they are not even the same weight anymore and Martienz is more expereinced.

Nonetheless it was a good fight.

Martinez was learning on the job and his lack of amateur experience didnt help. Good win for Margarito, but not one of his most significant ones. As for Martinez, it was more of a learning experience.

Decent at best. Sergio had fought nobody of note back then and as mentioned, was learning on the job with no amateur experience. He didn't even hit world level until 7 or 8 years later.

A very good victory but definitely not his best since they were both rather young and not fully developed physically. It's similar to RJJ's victory over Hopkins.

Part I at about 4:15 you see a nice right hand from margarito

Part II in round 3 we see Martinez rely on his lateral movement to give Margarito issues.

Part III at about 3:27 a liver punch ends Martinez rally

    Part IV

I think it was an awsome win on an underrated resume.
