Farnell better than Tak? Dude are you serious? I remember Farnell going life and death with Ruben Groenwald for the WBU. Farnell wept like a baby after there second fight when he finally won a "world title" :think Im more pissed off that the animosity between he and Alexander never materialised into a fight. Those two hated each other but they never fought.

 

I used to see Wayne quite a bit at the Peacocks. I bull**** you not he was a FEARSOME puncher. That man had frightening power in both hands. He was completely outclassed when put in with Harry Simon at late notice though. His fight with Paul Samuels though was excellent. Both men were hellacious punchers. Samuel ended up outside of the ring and in the judges lap. Ah that tragedy that was our light middles... What a waste..

 

I remeber Farnell said once he won the title - that

"no man on the face of the earth" would take it off him

he lost his next fight

He was brave and determined - just not as good as SKY TV made out

He was a British level fighter - with World title aspirations.

 

Takloo and his wife were convicted of benefit fraud a couple of years back

 

Farnell was a good domestic talent but that was all. Any talk of "World Title" asperations was pie in the sky, hence why he went down the infamous WBU route at the time which was a popular belt in Warrens stable. Unfortunately for Farnell he was around at a time when Britains light middles was VERY deep. There waws Williams Stone Samuels Alexander Lockett Tak (WBF Champion) Steve whatshisname etc. Plus there were some decent guys in the commenwealth who were causing upsets like Martinez, Monterio and Groewald. We had some very good domestic fights back then.

 

Indeed they were. He never got his pass to fight for the Lonsdale either.

 

Wasn't he found not guilty?

 

Farnell thought highly of himself

I remeber at a press confernce he openly declared his target was the current 154LBS WBC World Champion

I forget the fighters name - but he went onto to lose his WBC title to Oscar De La Hoya

I dont think the 1st round KO to Takloo was a fluke at all

I knew Farnell was overrated

I didnt really like the guy - as he was mouthy and thuggish - and lacked class - a bit like Manchester's other rough type - Michael Gomez

And he was talking **** about fighting Tak

I was quietly confident in Tak exposing him that night

And I admit I was pleased when that 1st round KO happened

Farnell posted on here the other day - maybe he is more older and wiser now - but during his fighting days I took a dislike to his attiutde.

I agree with Flint, Farnell was good to watch but he wasn't true world class. Not being wise after the event but Tak beating came as no surprise to me (althought the 1st round KO was a shocker).

 

We both share the same opinion. Back then Farnell was very brash. But he never had the talent to back up his boasts. When he got KO'ed ina round by Tak it didnt surprise me. His entire career was fairly mediocre by World standards and he found his level quite early on in his career.

 

He could whack thats for sure.haha. On a serious note he is a top man and hope he is doing well in retirment.

was jawaid khaliq on the undercard? He was one funny motho!!

 

I think Khaliq had retired by then but I could be wrong.

Changing the subject slightly, Takaloo vs Alexander was the same night as Haye vs Thompson.

 

No i think you're right. Khaliq hasnt fought in years. He did fairly well out of boxing and went back to mini cabbing.
