I was watching some video and it seemed that if he would have stayed down there he would have been considered great. A 100% KO rate at the lower weight why the hell did he jump up to heavy. What's the general opinion on the skinny "Double M"
He wasn't bad. Not the monster people say ( or picture ) him to have been. He'd actually improved when he moved up to heavyweight. It's hard to say if he'd have been great at light heavyweight.
He was a devastating puncher at LHW. Mad power. He moved up to fight the bigger boys and for money. He was one of those fighters who cared about legacy. First ever southpaw HW champ.
Are you kidding me, he was a beast at LHW and all the other champions avoided him like the plaque. Why he moved up to HW could have been the money or due to all avoiding him at 175 or both.
He could not have stayed at light heavy- the weight drain was breaking his muscle down. He was good, but never foguht the best of the day- Virgil Hill, Prince Charles Williams, Dennies Andries.
he was a small heavy but at 174 he was really skinny i think he could of stayed there for a bit longer but he was a big guy who was still growing. he was a beast at that weight but i think it clicked one day why was he starving himself to make weight agaisnt lower opposition for 1/5 the wage. humiliating mike white to me is proof that he wasnt too small. his chin let him down but i would go into a weight in my prime rather than leaving to late. actually thinking about the other light heavy's. foster took it bad, charles, moore were good but just a little or too late at giving there best plus 175. or is that a bad statement.
Moorer was a decent HW, he might have been an ATG if he was able to stay at LHW. Then again, his shaky chin may have eventually betrayed him there as well.
Moorer was a beast at LHW with one punch power. I think the strain of making weight was getting to him as his last fights at LHW seems lackluster to me. He still knocks those guys out, though. He was chubby at heavyweight and would have been a great Cruiserweight. I would have loved to see him fight Jirov, Toney some of the other greats Cruiserweight champs.
I am not sure what you saw but the Michael Moorer i saw was as good as the come. In fact he was one my favorite fighters before he moved up the Heavyweight. He was often on the old USA Tuesdays night fights or on ESPN in the late eighty's and early ninety's. He had an exciting style to go with his nasty power and good footwork. Come to think of it i am not sure why he ever went up.
He looked good against the C level opposition he fought, although Leslie Stewart didn't make him look so great. He seemed like a bit of a meat-head at LHW.
He was right up there at the level of the best fighters at that weight, with a much better upside. I have little doubt his name would have been up there as an ATG is he could have maintained his weight.
