How good was Mike McCallum?

He was excellent!

 

There is nobody today on his level.

A prime McCallum would have no trouble with anybody around today.
154 and 160.

 

extremely good, GGG beats him but other than that nobody else can hang.

he gave a prime RJJ a good fight when he was 40

He's a all time great in my book..full offensive arsenal with a great chin..dude was a beast.no on today would test him at 154-160..... at 168 only Ward would trouble him but I still have the Body Snatcher taking it

Imagine what McCallum would do to GG's best opponents.

Stevens had Golovkin pulling back with his hands down:deal...McCallum would be able to capitalize on that.

GG puts all his weight on his front foot...he'd be a sitting duck for whatever Mike wanted to do to him.

I'd only rate Hearns ahead off him at 154, & it's very close!

 

1. Hagler in or near his prime beats McCallum in an excellent, competitive fight. Duran's too small and too past his prime by the time of his run at 154/160 to best McCallum, but if on form, he'd give a good account of himself in a tidy, little technical battle. Hearns and Leonard make for very interesting match ups, but if taking the best version of each at the weight (Kalule for Leonard, Benitez or Duran for Hearns), I'd back them to win. McCallum would have a pretty good shot at gradually breaking Tommy down with bodywork throughout and stopping him late in a similar manner as Leonard, but more often than not, I suspect it'd be a Hearns decision.

2. For as long he wanted to stay at the weight, he'd be its boss, no question.

3. Yes. GGG would be fun and interesting, but McCallum would almost certainly get the better of him. He'd smash up the rest of the middleweight division until he started to seriously fade.

Brilliant technician. Great offensive fighter with nice defensive and counter punching skills. And of course one of the best body punchers.

Only the slick, defensive fighters gave him trouble (Kalambay).

 

GGG's power would just be too much, MM wasn't a big middleweight either. I see a late TKO or wide UD for GGG.
