we know what happened, he made Holmes and Spinks look like yourneymans. That's more than just a few players sometimes placed above him

I'd say Mike Tyson is the only guy who can go 4-0 against that line up on paper.

Incredible task for anyone to overcome.

I have Tyson at #6 overall. Head to head he's #1 for me.

I think Tyson could take Joe Louis, Liston ,Ali and Foreman ko him, and probably badly.

    Wrong.

For the average young Joe Blow on the Planet it's Tyson, not even close, Ali is known to the 50's to maybe 80's Birthday crowd............unless you are a die hard fan the average guy born after the 90's has little knowledghe of him.

Tyson is seen as a troubled product of the Ghetto who reached the stars and fell hard, Ali was the Middle class kid who possible became the greatest Heavy that has ever laced them up but had strange political/racial stances and IMO was a borderline America hater.

    Both crossed over to Mainstream.

You mentioned his death, well, his name dissapeared rather quickly out of the news cycle.

Completely disagree. Ali is still an icon. Tyson is just a well-known guy who is mostly a meme now.

Count how many documentaries there are about Ali (including a major one on PBS last year or the year before I think). Check out how much merch the name Ali still sells on tee shirts and whatnot.

Ali is almost revered. Tyson is the butt of a lot of jokes. People of a certain age remember him as a wrecking ball but there are a lot of others who remember him as a ****** and a guy who admitted (with glee) beating his wife.

Ask 100 random people what Tyson’s best win was and most won’t remember — they know he lost to Buster Douglas and Evander. Ali-Frazier is still remembered in the public consciousness.

I use body hair as a criterion. Valuev and Marciano are a lot higher on my lists than some of your smoothies like Ali and Holmes.

    Nobody watches PBS.

Ali was a notorious wife beater.

Ali was such a poor business man that he had to sell his name for a lump sum aka other investors made money of it not him.

T shirts, lol, Tyson is on the Net, Games, TV, Tabloids , he is cashing in Ali could only dream of.......plus his weed business.

Grandpa Tyson is going to make records again with casuals vs Paul................no current old Ex fighter can make that claim, see Holyfield , he got stopped vs a MMA guy in a non event nobody was watching.

Random 100 people never heard of Frazier, barely know Ali and maybe know Foreman from the grill..................only Oldtimers and Hippies remember those or die hard Boxing Fans.......Tyson remained Mainstream to this day.........because their days of Glory are half a century old, there is NO American Heavy worth a lick in years and nobody cares in todays society.

Boxing is a business and Tyson knows how to sell.

In conclusion , this country has produced more Minority Millionaires than the entire World combined so the 60' s Meme of Inequality" is null and void. today.

but not as much as Oliver McCall from Lewis right? Do you think Douglas was a greater player than Holmes, Tubbs, Spinks, Berbick, Biggs, Williams?

Even more. Douglas was 42:1 underdog. McCall only 5.5:1. And McCall striked Lewis with literal lucky punch, not even looking where he's punching. Douglas made Mike a punching bag for 9 rounds and then knocked him out.

Whether Douglas was better than those guys is irrelevant to the point I made.

well, in the same way you should discredit Hearns who was beaten by Barklay, Duran who was beaten by Laing, Jones who was beaten by Tarver, Liston who was beaten by Marshal, Norton who was beaten by Garcia, etc. etc. No points are awarded for being knocked out, it's like saying that all in history, achieved in one blow should be ignored. Therefore, Lewis did not retaliate against Rahman but landed a lucky punch. only you know the difference between ko McCall and ko Lewis.

I'm not discrediting anyone. I'm addressing your point that due to Tyson beating Spinks & Holmes, he should be considered higher on the all time list than some. Therefore, according to your logic, Buster Douglas should be considered even higher than Mike, as prime Mike Tyson in the resume weighs heavier than having past prime Spinks & Holmes. You're not getting what's being said to you again.

I never heard Ali bragging about beating his wife. He almost went to jail for standing up for what he believed (anti-war) … Tyson went to prison for ****. BIG difference.

Mike also went bankrupt. He was so bad at handling his finances that he owed millions upon millions to the IRS. There’s a reason he’s about to fight again at 60. Money.

Tyson is famous but also infamous. Ali was famous and celebrated as a man, not just a fighter.

Ali, who last fought in 1980, has a museum dedicated to him that draws 100K visitors and has drawn people from 110 countries.

Holmes was 38 years old and two years ring rusty. Spinks was a blown up heavyweight.

That said, Mike was astonishingly great in the 80s, with a fierceness akin to prime Dempsey. He is a top 10 ATG and h2h without question. Had the partying, Givens, and glamour not overwhelmed him he would have stood in the top 5 for sure.
