in your opinion ? Do you rate him as one of the best lightweights of modern era ? Or was he just a decent fighter ?? I´ll start to watch his fights tonight...... Tell me something guys.....
I liked him a lot and then he just disappeared. I guess he was kinda old when he came into Western boxing consciousness. Wish his stay at the top had been longer. Tough stalking southpaw with good handspeed and power. Kinda limited and linear in his approach but still, I imagine he would be a handful for any lightweight of the era. I would have really liked to see him fight MA Gonzalez.
A thumb by Jean Baptist Mendy made him disappear , and blind in 1 eye , yet he lasted d distance even in that fight .
I was really following him at the time. I felt he was a very strong lightweight. Really able to utilize his strength in infighting. I really wanted to see him get a fight with DeLaHoya at the time. But, that was the way it went down. Oh, well. Scartissue
I just watched this guy destroy Joey Gamache in a couple of rounds. I had never heard of him before. Looked useful.
I was living in Maine at the time he beat Gamache. The whole state was devastated when Nazarov came to town.
Another good lightweight to dig up and that is similarly ignored from a similar timeframe was Brian Mitchell.
He was a super-feather but good call. Had to do all his championship fighting on the road because of being a South African. And as all true fighting Boers, sported a great mustache! This content is protected
Hard to tell, because he never got the big fights he should've had, vs. either DeLaHoya or MA Gonzales, which would've told us more about the extent of his quality.
