He seemed to be fast, hit hard, could box. How would he have faired against a Prime Pernell Whittaker. https://boxrec.com/media/images//thumb/1/1b/Meldrick_Taylor.jpg/250px-Meldrick_Taylor.jpg
His hand speed, technical ability were exceptional... his IQ was very good but his mental discipline was poor in my opinion. As said above by @BoxingDialogue he just loved to mix it up too much, I think he was trapped by the "Philly" reputation and all that goes with it, he couldn't or wouldn't be allowed to fight any other way.
One of the very best ,great movement, scary speed, good power and chin very skilled top elite fighter, But Chavez ruined him. Sad.
Too much philly dawg in him ... like a gabe rosado, Only super gifted, athletic, talented, phenomenal...etc.
He always reminded me of a mix between Sugar Ray Leonard and Aaron Pryor at times where he was very flashy, punched in flurries with kinetic speed, and let his hands go a lot. Skilled operator, great offense, could box when he wanted but he just loved to brawl too much for his own good, mainly because of his Philly fighting spirit. His defense was very flawed unfortunately despite his great speed, which eventually led to his downfall against Chavez and the fights after that. One of the most entertaining fighters to watch.

Had all the skills but seemingly wasn't able to adapt to circumstances in the ring. He could have made easy work of Chavez but easing back in the second half of the fight, but instead continued with the same attack. Hard to say if that was his corners fault...
