I often feel like the Hamed-Barrera fight is exaggerated or misrepresented. It was a competitive fight where Barrera didn't really do all that much...he didn't really land a lot of clean shots and generally just about did enough to win most rounds without "schooling" or ever really hurting Hamed.

It was admittedly rather a strange performance from Hamed who didn't seem to know what to do when he found himself losing a fight...rather than really pouring it on and going for the win he kept on clowning and dancing, almost as if he was embarrassed to be "uncool" and actually dig deep to win.

My impression watching the fight was that in a rematch where Hamed actually fought hard for 12 rounds and concentrated on winning instead of "winning while looking cool" he could potentially have beaten Barrera as he had some advantages over him. I don't really think the fight "exposed" his lack of ability but rather it exposed his fragile mentality as a guy who didn't like being in tough fights against guys who could counter what he did. I think he was an A-level guy who couldn't deal with the fact that he wasn't an unbeatable God.

    Unpopular opinion, maybe.

Young hamed was an amazing talent. I couldn't see Barrera beating him then. Old hamed didn't train. His head got too big and when that happens it aint going to end good

He was GOOD, overrated by many because of his entertainment value, first and only time he stepped up to face A level fighter he was beaten easy, MAB literally figured him out totally and gave him a lesson...

:blood Or it just happens that early on he fought average opponents and as level of opponents was better you think he deteriorated, like excuses vs MAB fact is you look as good as your opponent lets you look and ATG MAB made him look average...

Just goes to show your limited knowledge. Your on a boxing forum and you think Hamed "seems" over rated, from that comment I presume you have never seen him fight.

The guy had every belt worth having in his division, he was pound for pound ranked and one of the hardest punchers and best entertainers of all time.

He lost on points to Barrera 8-4 yet people make out he was destroyed and knocked down in every round. At the end of his career he had all but stopped training, was living like a celebrity that's why he quit. He had made a fortune, something like £35m, that kind of money back then was insane for a featherweight even by today's standards its huge.

Naz was amazing. Maybe people should actually watch his career rather than looking on boxrec

It was 9 3, just MAB has that Mexican blood in him so he needed to show Hamed who the man in that ring is so he slammed him on the ring post and got point taken away....

Great great power generated from very thick legs for a man his size. Tremendous reflexes as well. Became exceedingly sloppy as his career progressed. Love him or hate him, he brought entertainment to the lower weight classes and with it serious money. Most of his top wins were against fighters past prime- Medina, Boom Boom, K. Kelley, and McCullough was too small. When he fought a prime great fighter in Barrera he lost clearly and decisevely and basically retired because of it at 26. Hurts legacy.

He lost his trainer and put on a lot of weight before having to shed it in the leading upto Barrera.

His hands were becoming more brittle. He also was building a family.

He was also not properly focused on Barrera going in with the idea that Barrera was not as tough as a previous opponent.

He was more focused on the event rather than the contest.

    Poor poor hamed

The only fighter in the world who had to cope with building a family and changing trainers

The weight he put on was just thrown on him by someone standing in the sky.

Poor hamed, if only he didn't have those problems thrown on him, he'd have been p4p

His hands were ****ed. He wanted to continue but his hands just weren't in good enough shape after the Barrera fight and before the Barrera fight.

He was pushed into the fight too early and without his main trainer.
