Sometimes keeping it light is best for making predictions. Going too in-depth opens up many variables. Additional variables can be inaccurately accounted for when they'll have zero bearing on the fight. It's like doing math the long way. Too many steps in the process increases the chances of a shaky hand that makes a mistake. The ability to know what factors will be relevant come fight night is even more important than the ability to spot all the subtleties imo.
Im not sure it was good , it was quick , but that doesnt mean he was good. Terrible footwork going backwards by the way.
my favorite Ricky video. It gives you an idea what it would be like to try to keep Ricky off of you. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udCVvVYLY1E[/ame]
You need to clear your inbox! British stoppages have been quick since Benn maimed G-man. They almost banned Boxing in the UK, and since then Ref's are taught that an early stoppage is better than a late one. I can see that point mate. I prefer doing hypothetical game plans, as opposed to fight predictions. As you mentioned, to many variables. This is a technical aspect which is fun to break down.
Just got it cleared, so I have space for one message now. I have a ghetto inbox with only a storage capacity of 20. It was filled up yesterday since with someone's response to my 10 paragraph thoughts on Pretty Boy Floyd-Sexy Sergio.:nut That makes sense now why Brits stop things so early. It's completely understandable.
I can't say I've been too keen on translating Golpe A Golpe videos either. Working and boxing makes it hard to invest time and effort at the end of the day like I normally would when I have to get up.
I'd rather you put those ten paragraphs in a thread. We need decent Boxing discussion threads, not PM's between you and a boyfriend :tong I think we've agreed for about a year now that Martinez is the only legit threat to Mayweather.
Honestly I have seen about 25 threads praising Hattons footwork. Find something else to talk about if you want to make Ricky look good. Oh wait. Brittards...
Certain things Sexy Sergio does plays into Floyd's hands like leaving leaving his hands down. The last person Floyd fought with a severe case of leaving their hands down was Shane Mosley, and Floyd couldn't miss him with jabs and lead rights. Cotto(e) managed to protect himself against Floyd by keeping his hands high and tight like a military haircut. After rewatching Sexy Sergio a few times, I've come to the conclusion that while he has head movement it's not GREAT. His primary form of defense is movement with the legs. Leaving his hands down without great head movement makes him vulnerable to short punches. Sergio's legs can't react in time to get him out of harm's way of short punches. Floyd is nice with the short punches. Martinez has also shown that he can be caught with Floyd's favorite punch, the lead right, if you keep the fight at a Barker or Mayweather-Mosley distance. Martinez tendency to return his lead hand to the waist after jabbing makes him vulnerable for the counter jab. Another punch I can see Floyd getting him with is the right hand to the body. Macklin cahgt him good wif rights to the body, it was basically his only effective punch. Floyd should be good as long as he doesn't throw no heavy, authoritative Miguel Cotto(e) style jab where you take a big AZZ step in with it. From what I seen, this jab isn't the best kind to use on southpaws. Cotto(e) kept getting it countered by emmanroid with left crosses. Pavlik got it countered by Sexy Sergio with right hooks. Macklin began using it too in desperation when Mart figured out how to limit the effectiveness of his right to the body, and it gave openings for him to be countered. Stick to the lighter sharp jabs, flickers, and rangefinders. Floyd also wants to be careful with his standard hook to the head. If there's any punch Floyd throws that occasionally leaves him vulnerable, it's his standard hook. He doesn't always throw it tightly. Tall Paul got KO'd by Sexy Sergio because he threw a left hook that was looser than the star employee at a ***** house. Macklin got put on his AZZ multiple times when Sergio countered his long hooks. Floyd himself has been caught before, Mosley and Cotto(e), because of how he throws his hook. I still think Sergio's style AND size would make him the hardest fight for Floyd, but it wouldn't be as hard as many people are imagining. There's two different strategies to choose from. The Barker come forward one or Macklin's forcing Mart to lead strat. Mack baited and agitated him into coming forward with rights to the body. Mack had more success. Sexy Sergio is nowhere near as good leading as he is looking for counters. Floyd has shown the ability to fight coming forward or in the reverse gear. Similar to the emmanroid fight Floyd would be using the lighter variety of jabs and rights to the body. I don't see the check hook coming into play as much on Mart.
Hatton's footwork was one of his best attributes. His ability to cut the ring off quickly was very impressive. A class footwork IMO. Mayweather gave up trying to outmanoeuvre Hatton with his own footwork and just opted to use his defence and own infighting ability to win the fight. That tells you a lot.
:good:good I'd point out that Martinez' legs are better than Mayweather's at this point in time. This is compensated by Mayweather's superior timing. I've only seen Martinez struggle with guys who are bigger than him. He struggled with the size of Barker, and the tenacity of Macklin. Obviously Mayweather has neither of these. I'd expect Mayweather to take offensive initiative, but not to jab very often. Plenty of right hand leads. They'd land all night. Keep the left hand back, because that right hook is no joke from the MW Champion. (I have doubts he'll get by Chavez.) Great points as expected, I'll leave it there as this is a place to appreciate the glorious feet of Hatton. :happy:happy:happy
