Of all his assets this one seemingly gets neglected to some degree.

Within two years or so he managed to fight Danny Lopez twice, Wilfredo Gomez. Some of the greatest punchers of all time.

Eight months after fighting Sanchez LaPorte would go on to KO the iron chinned Lockridge in two. He could definitely hit home early on.

Was he ever even stunned, Sanchez?

He had a solid chin, Lopez. Gomez and Nelson tested him ...never seen him hurt

Yeah, I didn't even bring up Azumah, and he was a great puncher himself.

How would you rate it compared to the absolute granite chins in his division, like LaPorte's?

Hard to say with his career cut short. He had big chin checkers in front of him at higher weights. I really can't fault it tho.

He was at least stunned quite often, usually against lesser fighters like Badillo though and hardly ever in notable bouts. Watch that bout, not only does he get stunned, but he looks overall pretty shitty period. But hey, he was young and often performed his best against the best opposition so I can't complain.

edit: Upon rewatching he actually didn't look that bad throughout the bout, but he was definitely stunned and wobbled.

The guy had a fantastic chin, especially given that it got tested by some serious punchers.

That was like his 18th fight... but a few fights later, he got dropped real hard and almost KO'd against Escobar. He looked like a raw slugger in that fight cos they were showing hi-lites of his past fights on the Spanish networks before he challenged Little Red Lopez for the title.

I remember thinking doesn't this Sanchez guy know he's hurt? He kept that same poker face on even as he stumbled around the ring clutching at his opponent. And the nstarted punching back on rocky legs, still with the poker face. And got caught again. But the bell saved him, if I remember right.

So, when he comes and dismantles Little Red, I was shocked shitless by the phenomenal improvement.

Not forgetting Pat Cowdell, Danny Lopez & Juan LaPorte. Not only did Sanchez display a solid chin, but he also produced the good whne it mattered. He took the best these guys had, then produced even better than they did!

Outstanding chin. One of boxing's all-time best in my view.
