How good was Sweet pea Whitaker?

He mugged Chavez at times. He should’ve got the decision

 

Whitaker hit Chavez in the testicles, the fight was stopped, he was warned, then he did it again! I mean right to the testicles! Whitaker did that to keep Chavez off him. The problem I had with Whitaker was the fact that his punches could not crack an egg! But they could crack a testicle!

 

Ridiculous defense, its amazing to watch some highlights of him in youtube. Cant say how good he really was as I dont know much about boxing in the 90's, but as far as I know, he was the king back then. Man he had style, just beautiful boxing.

 

He was a genius who took prime JCC to school. That's how good. His first loss finished him though, mentally he was gone after losing.

 

Fix the title, you don't use the word "good" with Pernell Whitaker

An ATG no doubt in my mind at all. The best defensive fighter I have ever seen, his reflexes were insane but it wasn't just natural talent he was very technical too in how he evaded shots. Must have been awfully frustrating to fight him, even if he was squared up, pinned in a corner, he was almost unhittable.

Anyone who thinks Chavez beat him or was even competitive likely is blind or has their head deeply embedded up Chavez's ass.

 

Theres actually a handful of fighters that I would favor over Whitaker @ 147. At his best weight the only fighters I can see having a chance against a prime Whitaker would be Duran, Pryor, and Napoles.
