He must have not been bad as he followed In a long line of fine European heavyweight champions that included Ingemar Johannson, Frank Bruno, Henry Cooper and Lennox Lewis. He beat Evangelista. And guess who else beat Evangelista? That's right.....Larry Holmes. He fought Buster Douglas to a draw. And guess who didn't fight Douglas to a draw.....Mike Tyson.

Irony/sarcasm aside; not very. I know British Journeyman John Westgarth's team suggested he was robbed in their fight. And being flattened by Anders Eklund is not a good look for a Heavyweight wanting a top ranking. Did nothing to change my opinion against Spinks.

I think he is one of them fighters on paper, with a Bugner win and Douglas draw, as well as wins over Evangelista, Rodriguez and Lakusta, you think was pretty decent. But when you look into it, you have two heavyweights in Joe and James who maybe the greatest phone it in Heavies we have known, losing a split decision and drawing despite losing points. And the rest had seen better days, and even then were not all that...

Tangstad seemed to be doing quite well vs spinks for 2 rounds than seemed to get disheartened .

Though i would not question his heart...it may be some injury or discomfort took over..but he seemed to stop fightinh

There for the pay day, being cute enough to avoid being hurt and not caring if they win or lose.

He beat 1 of 2 common opponents he had with Larry Holmes. And he and Holmes also lost to a common opponent....therefore.......

People like to conveniently overlook the fact that Tangstad beat Guido Trane who fought Eklund to a draw, which is basically the same as if Tangstad had beaten Eklund rather than getting knocked out by him.

Tangstad > Buster > Tyson = Tangstad > Tyson (who, you might notice, studiously avoided Steffen — I don’t think he even ever sparred him)

And Spinks > Tangstad > Tyson = Spinks > Tyson

I thought it as all Spinks. Tangstad had zero power. I don't think much of him.

He was slow, had no power, and those were his good qualities.
