I'm disappointed I canceled my Showtime too soon and missed the card. However, I've been following the threads and it looks like it was great. That is my perception. Was it truly great? Was it one of the best this year? It sounds like all fights didn't go the distance...
Very awesome. Johnson/Green was the perfect warm-up fight for a main event and the main event itself was just WOW. Great night to be a boxing fan. HBO card was 2 enjoyable walk-out bouts.
Marquez really won the event, what a phenomenal fighter. he was doing really high risk maneuvers and pulling them off in succession and buckled Juanma multiple times.
It was good overall. It was a good day of boxing all around. Cook-Jones and Rees-Watson were good. Johnson-Green was pretty good and ended in a very satisfying manner. Lopez-Marquez was excellent while it lasted (but ended in a very unsatsifying manner, both as a fan of Marquez and to any objective fight fan). The last few rounds of Guerrero-Escobedo were nice, and judging by the highlights shown by HBO it was good throughout. Judah-Matthysse started very slowly, and Judah tried his best to keep it from developing into a real fight but Matthysse made it interesting late and had Judah almost chicken-dancing a bit. Good night. Showtime definitely had the best overall action (with Sky Sports not too far behind, and HBO delivering some solid "decent" programming to round out the evening).
I would have been happier if Lopez/Marquez ended in a KO. Otherwise great card. Allan Green crybabied a lot.
Were you hoping for a KO for either in particular, or just because it would have been a more conclusive end?
Could you imagine the swings and furious action that would precede the KO? Also it would have been a great, concrete ending. The ending really, really marred the fight for me.
If your a johnson fan. It's like watching two main events that lives up to it's hype. johnson/jones was one of my favorite fights. Sorta brought back memories of that fight for me. Marquez was clearly at a disadvantage at that weight. He was the better boxer. But because of the power difference Juan looks to be in control if wanted. It was a harder fight only because Juan played around too much. Didn't respect Marquez and tired to walk him down, but got hit with a huge punch that turned it around. Vazquez of the old would have had a beter shot at juan IMO. But great fight.
