A rough fight for a round or two ?

Corrie Sanders did not beat ANYBODY of note besides glass chinned WK, got himself ko'ed against a Mike tyson sparring partner and got sparked by glass cannon rahman.

Did sanders have talent ? yes , but he only showed it once in a handful of rounds against a panic stricken WK.

I wouldn’t compare him to Buster pretending to be knocked out against Holyfield. Corrie was game. I was there and it was fun to watch.

"Tokyo" Douglas was so good that night... people call him "Tokyo" Douglas.

I think he should've changed his nickname from "Buster" to "Tokyo." Probably would've changed his life. (lol)

The Tucker who fought Tyson was not as good as the Douglas who fought Tyson, certainly not per the problems both presented him with. I've explained that at length. some may have "bashed" Tucker but i don't believe i have.

Douglas from the Tyson fight, (which is the version all my comments have been about obviously) as i have opined had "better" footwork than Tucker. Certainly against Tyson.

Being lighter does not mean someone is better on his feet. Dancing everywhere or moving non-stop or looking mobile doesn't make ones footwork "better". It's about precision, effectiveness and usefulness.

Having said all that it's hardly like Tyson looked amazing in the 1st against Tucker and while not as good as Busters Tucker did have a really decent first round. He evaded plenty and landed a couple of clean solid shots. He ties him up pretty good as well. He took a couple more clean shots than Douglas because his feet and offense weren't quite as precise as Busters. A good round tho.

Let me explain my full package comment.

Again it is blatantly obvious i am talking about the Douglas who beat Tyson. So lets have a look.

Jab - The Douglas jab was superb that night. I don't think anyone would argue.

Hand speed - Douglas, a big man, showed excellent hand speed that night.

Power - Douglas showed at the very least good power. Tyson had a good chin and never gave up but Douglas hurt him numerous times and put him away conclusively. He hurt him reasonably early in the fight too.

Offense - Douglas mixed up his punches and threw some combinations in there as well. His punches were accurate and seldom telegraphed or overly looped. Between his footwork and excellent offensive work Tyson was kept off balance and unable to mount his usual furious attack.

Footwork - Early on when Tyson was at his most dangerous Douglas was on fire with precise pinpoint footwork that wasted very little energy. There was purpose behind his every move and his anticipation. Early on Douglas skipped away as Tyson was about to let his hands go and when he did get close and wing Douglas winged back to show him he wasn't going to get free shots on this night. At other times so as to not become predictable he stepped in as Tyson did and smothered his intent.

Chin - On this night Douglas took his share of big punches off Tyson without flinching. Sure he got dropped hard but that takes us to the next point....

Heart/Determination/Coming back from Adversity - Regardless of the time of round Douglas showed great heart and determination to come back from being dropped hard and winning. Douglas showed great recovery at the start of the next round and actually almost ended Tyson's night right in that next stanza.

What heavyweights would you put forth that showed such a rounded and complete repertoire against an ATG on any given night?

For reasons already given this is largely irrelevant. Take a look at what came back in such stats but even then they only tell one part of the story. Douglas didn't freeze up, fight overly defensively or provide any amount of free shots like so many others did before him did. His footwork and offense stifled Tyson's usual offense. It was not the usual one way traffic.

For sure Tyson was off kilter but he'd been off kilter before as well and there's a decent case made earlier his camp was no better or not much better against TNT.

Apparently (and he's chasing him now LOL) but it's irrelevant to the point of the discussion. At the time Douglas beat Tyson he didn't need him or his money any more. 6 years later when he talked a rematch Douglas had been retired 6 years after quitting as soon as he was ko'd by Holy. Who knows, perhaps he had visions of beating Holyfield and getting god knows how many dollars for a Tyson rematch.

Now IMO i think it would have been fair and just for such a great champion as Tyson to receive an immediate rematch. Tyson had taken on all the tops dogs and it was a welcome chance from Holmes late reign which concentrated on easy pickings. Suddenly we had a guy wanting to beat the best available every time he stepped out.

It was a fantastic time and Tyson re-invigorated boxing truth be told. His personality, his immense ability, his power and aggression and the way he blew good fighters away like they were nothing had boxing booming.

Quite incredibly he's still a major force in boxing due to simply getting in shape and fighting an exhibition. The guys a superstar.

The height of stupidity right there. There's nothing quite like a scalded Tyson fanatic.
