I think his chin was as good as Ali's and Holmes', and better than Frazier's or Foreman's (first career).

However, his survival instinct was **** compared to those, which lead to the fact that he got knocked out in every of his losses. When Ali/Holmes were hurt, they held on, ran and went full on the defensive. When Tyson was hurt, he took a step back and tried to throw a counter. Even if he covered up for a moment, he came forward right after that, leading to getting hurt more, etc etc.

Frazier, too, hardly took a step back when hurt, and that's why Foreman knocked him out so one-sidedly.

But Tyson always needed to be beat down systematically over a long number of rounds, unlike for instance Frazier. Tyson has great resistance to hard, concussive punches, while Frazier was better at taking a lot of "light" punishment... just watch his fights with Ali, Ellis or Quarry.

    His chin was good.
    About as good as Frazier's.

Douglas and Holyfield were respectable hitters.

I rate Tyson´s chin 7´5 out of 10. A very good chin, but far away from great. Holyfield and Douglas were good punchers, but not elite punchers or so. But IMO his problem wasn´t the chin, but his survival mode, instead of clinching when he gets hurt or so, he couldn´t do anything...

I think Tyson has one of the best chin's in HW history.

I think its actually better than Ali, Holmes, or Frazier's chin.

His recouperating ability is not very good but his punch resistance is second to none.

You have to remember Tyson presses forward thereby increasing the impact of every punch he takes. His chin is tested and proven tough. Other fighters are given the benefit of the doubt without actually taking the clean blows that Mike has taken.

I'd agree on it being about a 7.5 out of 10, too.

You must remember, Tyson was never truly knocked out, against Buster he tried to make the count. Against Holyfield he was stopped on his feet, against Lewis he was more or less beaten down throughout the fight and then pushed down at the end, mentally he couldnt get up, but physically he could, against Williams his knee was all messed up and chose not to injury it even worse or take unneeded punishment.

Tyson ate punches most would be knocked out by, he sat in there and took probably one the hardest punching fighters at the time, in Ruddicks best punch "The Smash", and went nowhere. It took guys like Holyfield, Buster, and even Lewis, till later in the fight to get him out of there, and before the final knockout he took every kind of punch you could imagine, uppercuts, hooks, straight rights, it was never his chin that was the problem, it is mentally where he came up short.

Tyson's chin should be ranked lower end top 10, out of all the greats and hall of fame Heavyweights, he had a strong, battle tested chin.

Screwed up ankle? I thought he tore a knee ligament.

It's amazing that he even continued to fight on and take as much punishment as he did with one knee.

    Great chin imo.

He took puinshment by Holy,Buster and Lewis over a number of rds before getting beat. not one single punch knocked him out cold.

The McBride and Williams fights don't even count in my opinion. He was washed up and quit for various reasons.
