How good was Tyson's Chin?

Tyson had a great chin but this "Tyson was never truly knocked out" stuff is bull****.

Tyson was counted out against Douglas and against Lewis I think. And later on against Williams.
He only just managed to stay on his feet in the 10th round against Holyfield, only his stumpy build kept him standing, but Tyson admitted he didn't know where he was in that fight, he was out on his feet.

Yes, he had a GREAT chin, but he WAS knocked out during his career, AND he was stopped while on his feet but very groggy.

If you want to say "never truly knocked out" then you have to say that a lot of his brutal KOs weren't true knockouts either. Guys were in the process of getting up, or stopped on their feet, battered on the ropes, etc.

Havent really read the posts on this thread, just seen the title and thought i'd give mu opinion, not much of a debate in it imo.

Tyson had a great chin, but not a granite, elite type chin. The guy took some beatings before he went down, to beat him you really had to beat him. But he was stopped with good punches, its not like he had a Lamotta/McCullough chin, or even a Hagler, but he had one of the better (maybe an ubderstatement?) chins in HW history,

    that's how i see it

The only knockout I thought could of been a true lights out type of knockout, was against Buster, even then he was only a second or two short of making the count. Against Lewis he was beating from 2 on, Lewis himself interview said that he couldnt believe the shots Tyson was able take, and if you watch the final knockout closely, Lewis did catch him with a great right hand, but Tyson was still on his feet, until Lewis pushed on his back and put him down. I'm not saying Lewis wouldnt of been able to knock Tyson out in the next round or two, but once Tyson hit the canvas he probably said in his mind, enoughs, enough.

If you watch the first Holyfield fight closely, Tyson was getting caught with vicious headbutts, and when he tried to do it back to Holyfield, he ended up buckling his legs from the impact. In many Tyson interviews, he says he was out of it since the 2nd round from a headbutt, he barely remembers anything that happend from then on, he even thought he won the fight at the end when the fight was stopped.

Tyson had a great chin, the holyfield knockdown was a body punch not a head punch.

    Before the Douglass affair, I would've ranked it a 10.After, 6.5.

Agree. The flush shots Mike absorbed in 2002 from Lewis were sickening.
Mike got stopped by his feet against Holy. Tyson was just a tough dude, kept
Coming forward no matter what. I always admired that, mad heart. Nearly
    unstoppable in his prime.

As Good as Ali's???....Ali who was never knocked out, even when he was old as **** and shot to ****. LMAO, Ttson was KO'd by bums, Ali fought a top 10 ATG (Holmes) when he was totally shot and was not knocked down or out. Tyson fought a bum when he was old and got knocked out early.

Foreman and Ali had way better chins then Tyson, Frazier probably did also.

Tyson had a phenomenal chin as others have stated above watch the two fights with ruddock who at that time was extremely dangerous and considered one of the baddest men out there. Tyson eats those smashes and comes back for seconds! its truly remarkable how much punishment a small heavyweight like Tyson could take. Douglas had to hit him with everything AND the kitchen sing to knock him down and even then he wasn't sparked out. Holyfield was Teeing off on Tyson in the first fight and although he was stunned he just wouldnt go down. The Lewis fight Tyson walks through Lennox bombs all night always going forward even when he was a shell of his former self. Its obvious that against Danny Williams Tyson's knee is what troubled him in the fight. He did infact tear a ligament in either the first or second round, and Danny Williams still had to unload all he had for tyson to finally fall down. Kevin McBride LOL pushed an exhausted Tyson down in no way shape or form did his punches stun him. Mike had stamina issues especially after prison and I dont know if its his stubbornness/pride to not back up or fight off the back foot or its just the way he was but he probably could have avoided much more punishment that way but that wasnt his style. By looking at tysons neck and legs you know how he's able to take those shots. Taking punishment was never one of mike's problems

Tyson was knocked out due to injury or stamina you ******ed klit licker, not because he wasn't durable. He blew out his knee against Williams and still fought to the end, unlike Vittles who quits against a middle weight because his shoulder hurt.

Wlad has the most pathetic jaw of any heavyweight champion in history. Not even Joe Louis hit the canvas as much as Waldo. AVERAGE guys make him do 180 face plants.

Id rate his chin a 9 out of 10. I think his mind worked against him when he started to get hit consistantly. He put muchof his offense on the shelf and seemed to generally tighten up.

For example he may have taken one big shot better than Joe Frazier {debatable} but Joe`s chin and ability to absorb punishment was so superior to Tyson`s in the sense that Frazier could keep moving forward and fighting his fight.

Taking into account that from the time he stepped up his competition Tyson was nearly always the smaller man in the ring and the beatdowns he took before succumbing pre prison, I learn toward him having a very good/ great beard

Tyson had a much better chin that Smokin' Joey boy.
Joey boy did keep on going longer mostly because he was up again very fast while Tyson once he got hurt he was really HURT.
    Joey also had better stamina.
