Just how good was Vernon Forrest during his prime & how well would he have fared against the top competition today?

He has become one of the most overrated fighters on ESB.

Find the first moseley fight. Sugar Shane was a p4p contender. I swear I thought Forrest would decapitate him. Had some nagging injuries that held his career back.

Forrest was a great fighter who had the size, reach, range, and the jab to compete and maybe even beat Floyd at 154 imo....

Only guy to really hurt Mosley. Almost knocked him out.

In my opinion Vernon had the potential to be great, but injuries keep him sidelined during what should have been the most productive and active part of his career.

Very good, when he was at his best. His only real flaw was a tendency to fight to the level of his opposition...but was pretty good at adjust*ng when he met them in the ring again.

So yeah...he got bum rushed by Mayorga in their first fight, but arguably won the rematch (he won the second half of the rematch easy to secure at least a draw on my card) Got out-manuevered by Mora, but took him to school in the rematch.

With his height, reach, and skill-set, he was going to give pretty much any top fighter he faced as much as they could handle...and possibly more than they could handle if they weren't careful.

Very solid fighter. Excellent puncher, terrific jab, not the greatest legs/movement though. He'd be the number one welterweight right now if he were in his prime, which didn't last too long thanks to injuries.

Exceptional fighter. Sort of a Gene Tunney in his way, with his cerebral approach to things. Unfortunately he had Jorge Linares syndrome, sidelined by constant injuries. This hampered his performances in later years.

2002 Forrest would EASILY rule 147 right now.

Bradley, Floyd, Guerrero, ect are NOT beating the Forrest of the first Mosley fight.

Forrest, Winky Wright and Paul Williams the 3 most avoided fight of the last 15 years.

Oscar in particular wanted no parts of either Forrest, or Wright.

Overrated in retrospect. Unfulfilled career really, but people have this picture of him as someone who was a classic boxer who used his length, size and speed to dominate opponents, and thats not true.

He was more of a slugger, who left himself open to counter opportunities and struggled against awkward fighters ala Mayorga and Quartey.

Never saw him against an elite boxer possible due to avoidance, but its a question mark.
