Liston was the best of the bunch but its hard to tell if he gave effort or opted out for gamblers. Patterson had back issues and gave Ali some fits.

Williams was Ali's best-filmed effort, but he was shot.

You could make a case that Terrell was in the best shape, and gave Ali a good fight by going the distance.

Nothing I wrote was untrue, fanboy. At times, I wish this board had more content in terms of replies/debates.

The mid-1960's aside from Liston who took a dive and Frazier was nothing special. Ali did fight a Frazier in 1971 when they were both in their primes, and we saw the result.

i think chuvalo was a bit better than 'average but tough'. it was a good performance for most of the ali fight, he only looked outclassed in the last few rounds. Not a great of course.

Ok. I'll keep it very to the point. Here's the fight. Please tell me at what points Floyd gives Ali "fits":

liston gave effort at least once - he just wasn't used to being so massively outclassed.

Patterson was destroyed, mocked. the only fits are those of people on ESB lauging at your crud post.

he'd won five fights previous tht year - what is this crud you wrote earlier about him coming off a year long lay-off?

ali carried him out of spite for the name calling.

so far in this post, everything you wrote is lie, including that bit . That's why you feel the need to write "nothing I wrote was untrue"

    ??????? wtf.

I watched Williams later have a great losing fight with Chuvalo. His recovery from that shooting must have been pretty darn good because it was a good level.

And he beat Frazier's most recent challenger Terry Daniels in his next fight. He was 39 years old by then. Six years after his loss to Ali.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to agree. Tyson's was a pretty solid bunch.

Liston quit. He was not outclassed, the fight was 3-2-1 in favor of Ali at the when Liston quit in his corner. In the 2nd fight is a clear quit job. Neither fight was on the level.

Patterson had back issues. Heck you could see his corner working on his back between rounds. Ali took forever to finish a damaged goods, Patterson. Frazier or Foreman would have bounced Patterson out of there, and we saw what Liston did to a prime Patterson.

Williams was shot, literally by a bullet. Trying to paint him as in good working condition is shameful

Ali thumbed Terell in the eye and did not carry him. He did call Terell names for sure. This Ali was rather racy.

Chuvalo did give Ali a good fight. I said average but tough because of his many loses, several to not very spectacular fighters like Corlletti.

Yes, he did. While Chavalo lost on points, he was fine and danced with his wife after the fight. Ali was damaged worse and urinated blood.

How good were Ali's pre-exile challengers? Just okay as a group.

The most formidable of the bunch when Ali fought them was likely Terrell, and most would have a tough time placing him in their top 40.

    So many stupid replies.

The only good opponents Ali fought in the 60's were Liston, Terrell, Chuvalo, and Mildenberger. Williams and Folley come after. Both good fighters but over the hill at the time but still a challenge because of williams power and folley's experience. Joe Louis trained chuvalo and was in corner so Ali fought the best Chuvalo. Ali fought mildenberger in Germany and the German gave it his best. Ali fought the best mildenberger.

Now how I rate the good opponents . VERY GOOD.
