I'm watching quite a bit of both recently and it is quite a shame that these guys never met Jones, Hopkins or Toney ... Considering Benn crushed Iran Barkley and stopped the then indestructible G Man he simply cannot be written off as second rate ... Eubanks either ... some many here in the US write these guys off but I'm wondering what contributors from across the Atlantic about these guys and how they match up ?

they were part of a uk network that gave boxing to those starved of it by sky.

wassen saw the market for it and responded.

Also, why is he so often reffered to as Eubanks? It's so common that it returns a search on Google. But it's Eubank.

They were both world class fighters there is no doubt, I think sometimes it's easy for the Americans to overlook guys like these because they did not see them on mainstream tv or fight enough or at all in America

Both had their flaws and but had great attributes too...

Benn - had a suspect chin and was liable to gas out but his power, pressure style and accurate hooks made him as dangerous as anyone (Douglass Fischer is a huge fan of Benn)

Eubank - over confident, started slowly and often got hit off balance but had accurate punches, great combos laterial movement, footwork and a granite chin

Both are definitely hall of fame worthy.... Multiple weight champs with long careers and exciting fights, what more could you want from your fighters

You watched them fight Watson yet?

Eubank's chin - yeah, granite. Hewn granite. Dempsey and Marciano aside, I don't know of many fighters under 200lbs that would be physically capable of stopping him.

It's a tremendous pity that neither Eubank, Benn or Watson never got mainstream recognition Stateside. Benn got some of course, at first by virtue of beating Barkley and later McClellan, but Eubank and especially Watson never did.
A round robin type tourney with them and the likes of Jones, Toney and McClellan would have been great to watch.

I think a lot of Eubank not was down to him, I seem to remember hearing somewhere he was very very picky when fighting people

For example I heard that he had completely ruled out fighting undefeated fights, under no circumstances when he was champ would he fight them, there were other things like this which determined who he fought when he was champ....is a pitty cause I'm a huge fan

A shame they aren't in the discussion more, as both were very capable and would have added some great fights to boxing history had they fought Jones, Toney, or Hopkins...

A damn shame. I believe they would have won some, lost some in those matches... They definitely belong and would have their legacies elevated as a result.

There was a guy at Sky sports called Kelvin McKenzie that offered Barry Hearn and Eubank ten million pounds for the privilege of defending his nonsense WBO belt usually against fighters outside of the top 30 in what was billed as his " world tour " which with only 1 exception was actually a tour of Britain and Ireland.

    Just about sums up Eubank.

"Eubanks" is apparently his birth name, later dropping the "s".

His elder brothers fought under the Eubanks name, although strangely enough boxrec lists them both as "Eubank".

I think some of the people who refer to him as "Eubanks" are guys like Barry McGuigan who knew the family (having lost to Peter early on in his career).

When Peter got into a bit of trouble a few years back, reports refer to him as "Peter Eubanks", even when referring to him as the brother of Chris Eubank.

Benn is my favorite British fighter of all time.

Go and watch the Logan, G-Man, Eubank I and Barkley fights for sheer excitement!

Benn vs Jackson would have been ace at MW. As would've Benn/Toney.

I don't understand why Eubank was so picky, I've read somewhere he didn't want to fight southpaws, but recently in a sky sports gloves off super middleweight special he admitted fighting Roy Jones would've been suicide.
I think he's overdoing it, he was a solid fighter. He is so humble and honest now, he's got rid of that ego as he no longer needs it. So refreshing compared to other fighters who will never discuss their limitations, even after retiring.

The more I watch of these guys the more I am into them .. Benn was simply a physical marvel … he did get much better when he actually learned to make some sort of evolution from street fighter to boxer .. he did learn pace , act .. man what a brutal puncher ..

Eubank is a complete character .. looks pretty terrific too … incredible chin, very fast and cagey .. Collins looked like as tough a guy as I've ever seen … some interesting group and they were totally looked like as second tier here at the time .. man were a lot of terrific fights not made in that division ..
