Bunce and Lillis are like 2 mates having a chat about the boxing. It's fun for the forum guys but I think if your average joe watches it'll just look like cheap tat to them.

 

Yeah they were great and work really well together.

 

Heard Lillis comparing Canelo to Vargas saying he could burn out like him. Failing to note that it was WHO Vargas fought, not the amount of fights he had.

 

That's poor from Steve, Vargas was fed to mother****ing lions as a young buck. His match making was ridiculously tough and he did his best but it was a tough,tough ask.

Canelo's fighting emotional wrecks and reality tv fighters ffs...

 

Yeah, Alvarez is fighting the names, not the fighters who made those names. I'm getting fed up of the hype around him. Wake me up when he actually beats a legitimate challenge.

 

That's an interesting point. A lot of the people who will pay a subscription for this channel are hardcore fans who know about guys like Russell, amateurs and fighters with unpronounceable names. There is only one person on the channel who has a wide enough knowledge to appeal to those fans and that's Bunce. Lillis, as much as I like his personality, doesn't seem clued up enough and the other presenters on the channel don't even seem like boxing fans, never mind being aware of the Thai bantamweight scene.

On a side note though, surely the cards with your Asian fighters can't be too expensive to get hold of? When K2 have sold fights around the world, some countries are paying $1000 for the rights and that's for a world heavyweight title fight. I can imagine there are quite a few cards in Japan or wherever, which would be very inexpensive and yet would add a lot to the overall appeal of the channel, especially for serious fans of the sport.

The serious fans are the market Box Nation should target the most. They're the ones who will make sure the channel remains a success whenever fighters like Groves, Mitchell etc., lose.

 

Been saying this for a week or two, they need to get the Kameda card in a few weeks (heck even try and build up for a fight with Walsh?) and one of the December 31st cards (Uchiyama v Solis would be amazing or Cloud v Erdei-sell it as a chance to see Cleverely's future opponent). It's fan service and the sort of thing that will get folk like me on board for the channels Subscription service...until they do that I'll remain skeptical and wary.

 

What did Lillis say about Japanese boxing and YouTube?

I wasn't all that impressed with Russell Jr last night. First time I've sen him, but who has he faced before that has garnered him this reputation as a good defensive fighter?

Lovely short right to end it reminiscent of Muangsurin-Barro (but not as good) but the guy he was fighting looked a real stiff and landed a few fart-like punches.

I'll look forward to seeing Russell Jr develop nonetheless, amateur background and fairly flashy looking so will be interesting to see if he lives up to the hype some very knowledgable posters are giving him.

 

He said that Nishioka came out of nowhere to most fans when he fought Munroe.

He said that he had only seen Chavez Jr on Youtube before the Manfredo fight which for some reason deeply offended 'sadlittleboy'.

 

I was just slightly peeved that a guy who works in the sport and is on TV as an expert pundit knows less thans the guys watching. He also said that "the internet fans have been talking about Russell being fast from youtube clips" as if he doesn't realise WE watch fights from stateside.

 

To be honest there are plenty of ESB posters who are more knowledgable on the World scene than most Boxing Journalists.

All they are, are paid versions of us. With less time on their hands to relentlessly watch and analyse so many fights from around the World.

 

They get paid to watch fights, write about them and talk about them. I'd love it if they actually knew what they were talking about with out seeming so oblivious. It was like when Lillis was saying Narvaez had never fought out of Argentina, it'd only have taken 2 minutes research to know he's fought in Europe...Or when he said "I'd like to know how accurate he was in his last two fights against Rhodes and Hatton" (talking about Alvarez) completely ignoring the Gomez fight.

 

By 'youtube' he meant tv, DVD, online and not just YouTube. Steve and I have always worked from live. At shows he is in his seat from first bell to last. I just wanted to clear that up - it was not a slight. Live remains king for all levels of fighters, trust me.
