No sorry it would be me as an overly censorious jerk if I was seriously critiquing your restrained pedantic approach!

I should have put a smiley icon at least at the end.
I did not really believe you were being cruel-nothing more than taking some satisfaction at deconstructing his primitive brand of vague illogic, & meant that even a Saint might enjoy cornering someone who kept up not ponly repetitive non-specific objections, sprinkling in insults & a soupcan of paranoia about the intentions of perfectly supportable & common opinions.

You did us a service; I was joshing about how effective it was.

If there's one thing I am, it's pedantic.

But you also have a primary mode of appreciating the surreal, absurd & presumably sublime.
Are you a big fitness/cross-trainer in real life?

    1) you yourself posted a clip proving Louis knew how to use angles, cut off the ring, and advance without simply plodding forward in a straight line. This is not even a matter of opinion, it's right there in an easy to watch film that takes less than a minute to watch.

If anyone watches that clip and continues to claim Louis did not know how to use angles, then, to quote our favorite modernist poster, "they're lying".

    2) Joe hit movers his whole career and was quite successful at it. 4-0 against the fastest movers in his era. This is still being debated? Are we still repeating the "results don't matter" mantra?

    3) Joe made sure to plant his feet so that he could get full leverage on his shots and usually had good balance. Sometimes he leaned a little too much and suffered flash knockdowns, but he always got right back up and made adjustments. When people today look at the footage they think he was slow and stiff without realizing that his entire game plan and approach was to always be in position to fire off power punches. And there have been dozens of successful boxers long after Louis who fight in this manner, even today.

    4) no he wasn't. If a boxer like Louis were to literally tip toe with a come forward aggressive style he'd have about 40 knockout losses on his record. The term he's looking for is "inching". When you have the vocabulary of a 7th grade drop out, your criticisms look more illogical than they already are.

As alluded to in point #3, Louis style was about economical movement and being ready to explode at any moment with a fierce combination. By inching (not "tip toeing") towards his opponents he is ensuring that he saves his energy while stalking them. He did not fire until he was sure that he was in range and didn't take big steps galloping toward the opponent because that would give his intentions away. Inching also helped to apply a lot of mental pressure. I could write an entire essay on this point alone but it would be wasted on close minded clowns.

    5) Joe spent his entire career parrying with one arm and firing back. This "primitive" strategy was used by other backwards bums you've never heard of such as Foreman, Holmes, Mayweather, Marquez, Chavez, and Hoylfield.

Exactly, he struggled with Billy Conn who could probably make 160lbs today and he was also good for his time, but very small also and he was no Sugar Ray Leonard and he was able to box rings around Louis for most of the fight, he struggled with movers because of his predictability and lack of feints and no rhythm, he looked good against slow fighters with little defends because he was able to tee off with his combinations, but against any good big heavyweight over the past 30 years, he wouldn’t stand a chance because he’d be a sitting duck, he’s 205lbs and not elusive at all in his feet and like I said he has no rhythm of feints to keep his opponent guessing, as soon as they start letting their hands go, it’s a matter of time before they catch him, if he fought Lennox Lewis, I’d be surprised if he made it out of the first round

I try to keep in shape. Got injured recently, but already a good ways toward rehabbing that. I'm not a coach or anything, though. Picked my screen name a long time ago, when cross training was still a newer buzzword/trend.

Perhaps your new moniker should be upgraded to Cross Examiner.

It appears your TRAINING has been completed. You may now leave the Temple.

I mean, if the 4 oz velvet glove fits……F Lee Bailey, Cochran, Darrow, eat your hearts out.

In some ways, there may be parallels to the Scopes - ****** Trial given the question of the evolution of boxing.

Perhaps your case has already drawn from said precedent.

I believe even Liston, who was not that long after him, would beat him, he would outjab him, at least Liston had some rhythm to his hands, he didn’t just stand stock still keeping his whole body in place waiting to do something, at least he created opportunities for himself with feints

You know when the side doesn't have any arguments, if the best one presented by them is "Louis didn't have rythm in his hands" :D
