Shoulder role? How good would Amir Khan be at being a shoulder?

Haven't really thought about it tbh. Shoulder Roll on the other hand would be too risky for him. Don't think his reflexes are quite good enough & his chin could let him down if he's clocked with something he doesn't see coming

Are you ****ing stupid? You must be horrendously stupid to come out with this total shite.

Khan with a shoulder roll? He's as stiff as a god damn board, it does not remotely figure in his or Roach's thinking. They're trying to use their legs for defence and keep a tight conventional guard, he'd look like Oscar De La Hoya did when he tried to do that **** if he tried it.

It wouldn't work for Khan, he does not have the instinct, intelligence of a defensive fighter.

Khan is good at what he does, which is fight exclusively from long range utilizing his speed and athleticism, but he's a pretty basic fighter technically in comparison to other fighters. Khan has no inside game, has no mid range game imo, he attacks in straight lines, has questionable footwork when pressured.

Trying to incorporate something your not used to doing, when your an offensive fighter, a naive fighter, is not going to do you any favours imo.

Margo would of always beaten the crap out of Cintron, he did it once already, but in the rematch, Cintron tried to use the should roll to defend himself, to negate Margo's inside work, but all he did, was allow Margo inside where he could break him up, as he did not utilize the shoulder roll well enough. You can generally only counter someone from in mid range, so you have to either bait them into mid range, or allow them in, but the key is, you have to know when you do that, that you can cope with their offense, use it against them by utilizing the countering when you make them miss, essentially using your defense to create your offense, which is their offense.

The shoulder roll is not about making someone miss, its about finding a transition from defense to offense when you make them miss, that's the key, cause if you dont punch back, counter enough in-between their punches, they will keep throwing, and either overwhelm you with activity, or catch up to you.

Kevin Mitchell, tried to utilize the shoulder roll when he was hurt(Katsidis), it got him into more trouble. George Groves tried to hang around on the ropes against Anderson, he got hit, reason he got hit, his defense is not good enough to present a stationary target to someone and make them miss consistently. When you stop still, or allow someone into the pocket, or inside, you have to know you can handle them there.

Mayweather has a great mid range game, not cause he slips punches, but because he makes you pay when! you miss.

khan's biggest flaw for me is his lack of rhythm. It never feels like his punches set up other shots. They're just sharp bursts then he needs to reset.

How good would he be with Frazier's peek-a-boo style? That's a much better thread.

Your right actually, he should have stood there infront of Maidana a little longer.

I think I've only seen Khan use his reflexes once. That was against Kotelnik with some terribly telegraphed desperate punches.

The guy is not an effective boxer-move either. He won't have the dig to really dissuade top, top fighters, his jab seems fairly easy to counter over, and he does at mid-range is throw flurries than take him closer and closer to his opponent as he finishes them off, his back for basically airborne

He's still a sloppy amateurish fighter, Roach has definitely tidied him up and he was now learned to get on his bike when hit (not the hardest thing to figure out if you've been floored by Willie Limond and have been buckled heavily as an amateur) but still channel his massive heart into his work.

He will need it, his career is gonna' have rough moments from what I can see.

The 'shoulder r.o.l.l', and the term is detestable really, is made for fighters with quick reflexes, and someone who can afford to take shot to the arm and body before springing a counter and stepping away from the ropes/turning your opponent.

Khans best bet is to not take any chance of gettig hit. He should learn to use two and three punches, from mid-range, and keep circling, rather than firing off flashy combos that don't hurt. He needs to have an end product, his flurries must be quite easy to adjust too and he's doesn't have a massive depth in impressive single punches. He should be trying to set up the kinda' body shot he landed on Maidana, using them to bamboozle an opponent so that they don't see the big one coming.

Instead it's flurry, move a bit, flurry, move a bit, his rhythm doesn't change so the likes of Maidana can plan their counters and see their oppurtunities, flurry, move a bit, flurry, get hit, get on me bike.

Now, this is only going to work for so long. People will say 'he's young and will learn' well he's in the thick of it now and is still showing mistakes from his pre-Roach 'Road to Prescott'.

I'm a fan of how much he loves to test himself, how he gets buckled by a big puncher but this time comes through it, bit thinking this now makes him a really good boxer is shocking. He's got some awesome attributes that are getting him through, but his application of skillset leaves a lot to be desired IMO anyway.

he is yet to have the composure to see which shot is coming and to pick it off. he is so fast that he can't but be herky jerky, in and out, up and down. it takes a smart mind to be as fast as floyd but to use smarts, timing and distance rather than continously trying to outspeed someone.

khan composure is improving behind a full guard but i can't see it ever being in his character to fight fully behind a half guard.

i do think he can pick a couple of moves from the half guard repetoire and execute them to good effect.
