Smashed to pieces unless ...he could find a 45 year old Cruiser on a 3 fight losing streak at the end of his career. He could possibly carve out a 12 points win, after maybe getting floored along the way.
Depends if his chin holds up and if he keeps his speed at the higher weight. If he did he'd give must cruisers a run for there money.
Calzaghe is the best counter attacker in history. He has amazing reflexes. His speed of foot, hand anf reflexes mean his fights defensive and only David haye would beat him. Any other cruiser would have to catch him cold in the first. Calzaghe would have to stay light and not bulk up though. Number 2 cruiserweight in the world.
Joe relies strongly on work rate, speed, output, and chin - all these would be affected. His output, speed and work rate would go down with the extra weight put on - his chin would be tested against bigger punches. Verdict: Joe gets a beat down; bigtime.
It's hard to write a response to C_H_J that's as short as his post, as there are always so many mistakes in it that it takes a while to unravel the rank stupidity contained in so few words. 1 - Joe Calzaghe is not, nor is anything anywhere near, the best counter attacker in history. Joe Calzaghe is not the best counter attacker active right now. There are tens of better counter attackers in history. 2 - Amazing reflexes?! He has poor reflexes! He gets caught by punches so often, no wonder he has a good chin, it's had plenty of practice despite the shocking opposition he has fought!! Calzaghe hardly ever slips punches, his reflexes are not a strength of his at all, not even close to being one, it's one of his weaknesses if anything. Had he fought punchers of accuracy like Jones and Hopkins when they were younger, they would have been bouncing vicious punches off his stationary skull all night long baby! This is one of the key reasons I cannot see any version of Calzaghe beating '91-'94 Toney. 3 - Joe would be **** at cruiserweight. Any cruiser worth his salt would plough through the pitter-pats and brutalize him. Haye would have ****ing buried him inside a round.
i disagree that he stepped up to LHW with ease. His first fight at LHW was a SD against a faded Hopkins, who is a career middleweight (although Hopkins fills out very well at 175). He got knocked down in the first round of that fight. His second fight was a UD against a shot to **** RJJ. He got knocked down in the first round of that fight.
