Why not? I know this sounds way out there but if Napa had respectable power and was average size for his division he'd be pretty much a Toney-lite.

Lacking footwork, but a good inside/mid-range and defensive fighter. He still hasn't quite got the speed Toney had, or the natural timing, but he'd be a lite version IMO.

It's all very well losing because you can't even reach your opponents chin. It renders Napa useless on the outside as opposed to Toney who was simply passable (at world class).

    True.

But, in terms of something that is genuinely possible; COULD HE make fly/super-fly AND would it make him any more effective? Still too small? As you say the strawweights are even taller than him, but surely his 'power' would mean more against them?

According to an earlier poster he can, but there just aren't opportunities for him at domestic/European level which does seem to be the case. It's going to be near impossible to produce a world class flyweight from Britain, too much of a gap from domestic/European to world class. I guess its genes compared to Asians/Latinos.

His power would be a little better I figure, but probably not much. He seems a genuine weakling. He can only bother people to the body with a consistent targetting.

I think Napa would be on the world level if he dropped in weight and had a little more power

What if Napa was half as good as he thinks he is.

    Slightly off topic...

I met Ian Napa once and he was a very genuine, down to earth guy. He semed a bit suprised that we wanted to chat to him!

Lovely guy outside the ring, lovely to watch inside...

I tell you what I'd like to see...

Ian Napa vs Ivan Calderon.... Purist's heaven!

I don't think Napa has ever been arrogant or suffered from delusion of granduer to be honest. I've never heard him say anything that suggests he thinks he is better than he is.

If Napa fought at his natural weight of Super fly he would be among the world elite... He must have watched alot of James Toney as a youngster because his defensive skills remind me alot of a prime Toney!! His trainer Brian Lawrence has done a good job on him mentally & Physically...

He has had a few set backs in his career but im glad he has started to get the recognition he deserves... He's beaten some really good fighters along the way... Booth,Haskins etc...He will school davis from start to finish and go on to win back his European Title!! On his day he is one of the best british boxers to watch (Skill wise)..

he's the james toney of the domestic scene.

keep it long and don't crowd him and he struggles.

shame he lacks a punch. :-(

i think he'd be close to world class with a punch.
