He wouldn’t beat Alvarez. But he was probably about as good as the other top ranking super middles that are out there right now. Yeah he got away with some gift decisions but in many cases today I don’t think he’d need the officials to at least be in the mix of things
I think he would have his moments against Canelo but would ultimately get broken down by body shots. Likely the same story against Benavidez as well. I do think he could beat Plant, Dirrell and the rest if this current crop at 168. His best days were when he was in his twenties as an amateur. He was already 30 when he turned pro and was in the decline.
If we are comparing against the last 3 Canelo fought at super middleweight I think Ottke would struggle against all 3.
Ottke was pretty good but not as good as his record suggests. Would be interesting to see what was stronger: Ottke's pocket referee or Canelo's custom judges. It's hard to pile up points when you get warned for hitting Ottke too hard ... even if Canelo's judges count every landed punch twice.
