Pryer was great. I seem to recall that he always wanted to fight the big names, Davis, Leanard,, those type guys, but I don't think those guys wanted any part of him. He was really something else. Not you're normall fighter, he was kind of ecxiting in a Tyson kind of way, when he fought, it was like a hurricane blew into town.
Pryor had offers to fight Duran and Leonard...I don't know about Davis though. Pryor-Duran would've been the most exciting of those fights IMO. Pryor made for action packed fights. The Johnson fight is an underrated war.
Look at his titling winning bout v.s. Cervantes ... Pryor tore him apart like no one ever did before or after .. Cervantes was a Hopkins type of his day ... he was still a terrific fighter and very dangerous ... Aaron destroyed him .. ther sad thing about his drugs was that it cut his prime short ... they do not take aay from what he accomplished ..
He was a great fighter. I don't argue that at all. The first Arguello fight was the greatest fight I have ever seen. Unfortunately, there is a taint to the fight that I don't think will go away at this point. It lessens my view of Pryor a little and I feel bad about that but that's the way it is. I wish he had gone on after that to verify the legitimacy of that fight. Arguello II doesn't do it for me because Arguello could not be the same after the punishment absorbed in the first loss. Alexis wasn't terribly sharp against Claude Noel between Pryor I and II. So in my view, Pryor is absolutely a great fighter, but Arguello I and his downfall to drugs puts a ceiling on him a bit. I truly think he had top 25 potential.
