This guy could go a whole round not using a jab, and just trying land his hook, and he never really tried to set up the hook, he got away with it for a while but when he fought smart fighters that new how to deal with him it was over. If he had just a decent style that he kept out there that Mayweather fight wouldn't of went like that event though floyd still wins, but not in that fashion. By the time he moved up in weight it was no secret what punch he was looking to land and cats just had him figured out. Corrales would of also prevented himself from taking a lot damage as well what do ya think, and why the **** didn't his trainer tell him this ****? Maybe an ATG?
the jab was the one weapon that corrales needed but didn't use. you say he could go a whole round without using it.... he would go through whole fights without using it!. a couple here and there, but that's it. for someone his size, it should of been his no. 1 weapon to let everything flow off it. but it wasn't. he liked to get stuck in way too much. that was his downfall in a lot of his fights. some he won, some he lost. had he of used the jab more, he could of won the fights he lost, and made it easier for himself with the fights he won. but that's just corrales.... that's why so many people loved him.. he would go to war. when he settled down and used his boxing skills, he didn't leave himself so open (freitas fight) and would come out on top. but he couldn't stop himself from being dragged into a fight... it was another one of his weaknesses. a very good fighter, but i don't think he would of been an ATG had he used the jab more.
I ask this question for so many fights i watch. Guys just don't use the jab enough period. They just try to lunge in with power shots all exposed with no jab. I don't know why that's the case. This is PROFESSIONAL boxing is it not? So shouldn't the obvious basics be like second nature?
He wouldn't be Corrales if he fought any other way. Just appreciate him for what he was. Everybody is different... the world would be boring if everyone used the same approach
