Now, do you see why Calzaghe and his fans get ridiculed?

His time ravaged body used epo in that fight. Hopkins of a few years earlier and Joe doesn't make the second round.:smoke

He was a very good fighter, who had major issues with his hands to overcome. He always overcame adversity and found a way to win his fights. He had a good chin and was clever in the ring. Amazing work ethic. Did he have a massive career defining win, i don't know. Did he fight some bums, yes but everyone has in the past. Manfredo springs to mind, that was a terrible match up but i guess Manfredo had a bit of a following in America due to 'The Contender' and Calzaghe used this to drum up interest for his fight against Hopkins.
He was undeffeated and that takes some doing, you cant go in the ring with some of the opponents he's faced and come away with a 0 losses without having some great skills and courage.
If he was American would he have more of a following on this website, of course he would. He would have been a huge star.

Hatton, Manny, Cotto etc,etc... Are not American. Joe wasn't big because he had an awful style to watch and the personality of a wet sponge, not to mention the fact that he had a real aversion to fighting outside of Wales.

Awful style?!?! I've hear a lot of negative comments on him being a slapper etc but the guy had skills, would drop his hands and go toe to toe plus a bit of showboating.

Ricky wasn't massive in America, he had a big following from England because he was seen as one of the lads who liked a drink and had a come forward exciting style.
Manny Pac is #1 p4p in the world at the moment and is knocking people out left right and centre who he shouldn't be because he's seen as a smaller fighter.
Cotto ain't big anymore because he's been destroyed recently. And that was kind of my point, Calzaghe NEVER got beat, he went in the ring 46 times and came out as the winner every time. But he still doesn't get the respect of somebody like Hopkins for example. Clearly because he's a white european fighter. Like the Klitcshko brothers, dominating the Heavyweight division, don't get an ounce of respect.

just rewatch how he made lacy, jones and hopkins his *****. the final round against lacy, epic boxing performance.

ruined that mans career, lacy made the biggest mistake going for calzaghe, he would have been amazing if he went for someone poorer like hopkins or jones. but after the loss to calz he became half the boxer
