More like Corrales' left hook would be getting to Marquez. Lets not act like Marquez is unbeatable. Katisdis put him down hard and if Kat could do that with his left hook.......
An old shot Casamayor was fighting even with JMM for 11 rounds yet he can beat Corrales no doubt about it?
They both won titles in multiple divisions, but look at their performances in the ring and their opposition. Corrales's were more impressive. Gatti's win over Patterson to win the title was solid, then Gatti went life-and-death with the likes of Rodriguez and Ruelas in title defenses, and lost 3 straight at 135 against Robinson and Manfredy. His title at 140 came from winning a vacant title against Branco, and that came after losing (I had it even) the first time against Ward. Corrales won titles against the likes of Garcia, Casamayor, Freitas, and Castillo...and dominated Manfredy. He beat better fighters than Gatti did, had more ability, and Gatti lost to lesser fighters than Chico did.
Agreed. While Marquez is a better/greater fighter, he showed some vulnerabilities in tough fights at 135, against the likes of Diaz and Katsidis, who were considerably lesser fighters than Castillo and Corrales. People might bring up Marquez's performance above WW against Manny to show his abilities at the higher weights. Marquez will always give Pacquiao hell, but I don't think you need to be a great like Pacquiao to give Marquez a really tough fight, especially at his relatively advanced stage in his career at 135.
It sounds like some of you won't call him great because of he wasn't a complete polished boxer. He certainly had the body of work to be called a great.
Corrales was at least a level above Gatti, who was definitely better than Ward. Gatti has more quality wins, more talent and ability, and won about 23-24 of the 30 rounds he fought against Ward.
this...^ if he didn't have that heart and warrior mentality he wouldn't have been anything special...gotta respect a guy like that... a talented good fighter, not great...
"Great" is subjective. He was a B+/A- caliber fighter on the world class level. He won world titles in 2 divisions against very good fighters who were the best/among the best in those divisions, not just belts against guys who weren't really among the division's elite.
