Trying to get a read on Mickey Walker and how he places somewhere in a P4P top 30 and whether he's a top 5 welter and a top 10 middle. So, how great was he and why?
I don't have him top 10 at WW or MW based solely on fights contested in those divisions. I have him #12 p4p all time though. His work at LHW and in particular HW is outstanding for a fighter of his size. A 5ft 7ins, come forward pressure fighter, who was never any more than a natural MW, beating top 10 ranked HWs and drawing with the 30lbs heavier, number 1 HW contender, who won the title just two fights later, is just absurd.
Only a handful of guys who climbed the ladder in weight and was successful as Walker was, while giving up a ton of weight. Probably the best example of a fighter who makes boxers of the last 40 years seem soft as **** Hes a shoe in top 20 p4p
I have film of him beating up Harry Greb in a parking lot after their fight. He was too much of a gentleman to show up Harry in front of all those people so he waited til after just to show Greb who was really the man.
Greb beat him pretty handily. That said, I think he looks like a very skilled mauler on film. His magnificent record speaks for itself. A great fighter. Floyd KO8
