It’s the way of the sport, especially guys with a ton of wins. Roberto Duran’s 52nd fight was against an 0-3 guy. Carlos Monzon’s 82nd fight was against a 3-5-1 guy. Both were sitting champions fighting non-title fights, but it goes to show that even ATGs can also have inflated records. (Those are a couple of examples but there are plenty more.)
Oh yeah, I'm aware of the reality. But 34 fights without a win and a 12 yr career ain't the norm even for a guy "playing his role".
I've never seen him rated very high in my life. His reputation was that of a good to very good action fighter with heaps of heart. He stated that all of a sudden he couldn't take a punch making him a good example of that grouping/phenomena.
Very padded record but he did have some quality about him his performance vs Hilmer Kenty was a very good one Kenty was the first world champion trained by the late great Emanuel Steward. I haven't seen the fight but apparently O'Grady was doing very well against Jim Watt until the headbutt which some say was deliberate and may of changed the outcome of the fight that O'Grady could've won we'll never know though. I don't think O'Grady was close to being great but he was definitely world class and a very exciting fighter.
He also vacated a legit world title that he won in an hard fought battle against Kenty to take on a bogus one that his father created.
