Do you find the name Abraham to be as funny as I do?

Monzon punched hard enough to put about 60 opponents to sleep and rule his division for 7 or 8 years...but not hard enough for Ring Magazine to name him in their top 100 punchers of all time.

Monzon was a consistent puncher with stiff, straight shots.

Think Pavlik's punching power on someone ten times more technically efficient and you'll have an idea (in terms of modern comparisons anyway)

    Hope that helps.

I think Monzon was a solid hitter, not a big hitter who could change the ride of a fight based on one big punch.

He was more of a stalker who would break your heart with solid but not ridiculously hard punches over time.

Monzon had above average power. He wasn't one-punch boxer, he was braking his opponents with consitency and pressure , hunting them for 15 rounds.

Spot on JT. Actually glanced the list before making the statement and was amazed he wasn't there (but I missed him!!).

On a scale of 1 to 10 monzon was an 8. Not a devastating puncher, but hard hitting nontheless. Monzons effectiveness in punching came from the leverage that he was able to get because of his height and reach advantage. He was a unusually tall for a middleweight in his era, and he used ti to lean back and catch in opponents coming in with straight, jarring punches that took effect over a number of rounds.

Monzon actually had a lot of natural power. The reason he wasn't more instantly explosive with his punches is that he preferred to throw lots of short, quick punches rather than load up on single punches. That way he could hurt guys and get their respect with short little punches, without having to put full leverage behind them. That's how he was able to conserve his stamina in fights and keep his defense tight at the same time. A bit similar to Dick Tiger.

Accuracy was key too. An accurate shot can have a startling effect. Once Carlos began to find the range he missed very few punches.

Monzon had a bomb of a right hand as he proved against Benvenuti, but after that, arthtitis took it's toll, and he had to modify his style to compensate for having to pull his punches.
